How do bees make their honey? It all starts with foraging—worker bees fly up to 5 miles in search of nectar, burning through a huge amount of energy along the way. Once collected, the nectar is passed from bee to bee, gradually reducing its moisture until it thickens into the honey 🍯

First miner bees I’ve seen this spring. No sign of the Andrena nida who nest in the sand by the creek, and return in early evening to burrow down into the sand. I hope it’s just that it was too cold this morning and they never bothered to get out of bed. Will look again next week. #bees #insects

Sunflowers make good companions to cucumbers and pole beans (dry or butter) by providing vine support and attracting pollinators. It’s true they emit a chemical that stunts growth of some nearby plants, so it’s best to avoid planting them next to green beans, tomatoes, potatoes, and brassicas. 🌱💚🐝

OMG I JUST SAW A BLUE BANDED BEE! First time seeing one up close after much searching 😄 And it was while watering my neighbors garden, so I should be able to attract some too!! (Yes, I'm way too excited about this but just look at how freaking stunning they are 😂) 🌿🦑
