Over 2022 and 2023 I visited (or in the case of eight, revisited) all 26 English medieval cathedrals.

As an #Advent offering I'll be sharing photos here of one cathedral per day. Ish.

Today is my fifth autism #diagnosiversary, so I baked these to take into work... chocolate brainies.

Finally getting my diagnosis in one sense changed nothing - I'm still the same person I was before - but the relief, acceptance and validation I immediately felt were immense.

Moudhy is a brilliant and remarkable scholar and author. This should be a great conversation. If you're in Oxford this evening, do come along.

Not sure how Labour can fully square the circle between admitting that Reform's proposals to deport children are racist, but their plans for deport children, even if born and raised in the UK, are "fair and compassionate".

Hundreds of thousands of displaced people in #Gaza face a 3rd winter without protection or basics.

Many live in worn-out tents which quickly flood, soaking people’s belongings, leaving families exposed to the cold.

More shelter supplies are urgently needed. UNRWA has them. Let us bring them in.

Her portrayal of asylum seekers doesn't just respond to the racist narratives of the Far Right: by othering asylum seekers as unworthy winners of riches, in implicit contrast to struggling families, Shabana Mahmood actively promotes and feeds those Far Right lies.
For Shabana Mahmood to attack some of the most cruelly treated people in the world as having won a "golden ticket" because they manage to get to and claim asylum in Britain is unforgiveable.

A new, far right, low for which I can think of no precedent, by any UK Government.

The fact that abuse of people who are not deemed sufficiently “vulnerable” according to several categories is deemed not a safeguarding matter is simply insane. Everyone deserves to be protected from abuse, not just those who fall into certain categories. #CofEpeeps #safeguarding

I am deeply ashamed to be British at times like this. And feel so foolish at the optimism I initially felt when Labour won the last election.
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Instructions in my reply to the quoted post.
If you'd like a lovely roast dinner in Islington on Monday 1st December and also to support our excellent soup kitchen and food bank, good news! Mabruk at The Great Chase is donating 100% of costs from roast dinners that night. Advance booking only, see reply to this for details...

Displaced families should not face winter alone.

UNHCR teams are on the ground—but resources are running low.

We must act now, before the cold sets in.

Give warmth. Save lives.

In Syria and Jordan, funding cuts mean 750,000 people may go without warm clothes, mattresses or shelter repairs.

In Afghanistan, many returnees have nothing—some have never even lived there before.

In Ukraine, temperatures may reach -20°C while attacks damage heating systems.

A ceasefire that kills 104 people overnight isn’t really a ceasefire – it’s more proof of our government’s disdain for life across this land. No more families should have to grieve their loved ones, and suffer trauma after trauma. We all deserve a future without endless bloodshed and violence. (2/2)
