@merkley.senate.gov Words are nice, but until Schumer is gone it’s all meaningless.

Know this, @schumer.senate.gov — if you cave, we will not rest until you are primaried and wrested from your seat. When kids on SNAP aren’t being fed, we’re even more hungry for justice. New York has shown you the people’s power just days ago. You *could* join with us, still, and do the right thing.

If Dems don't want to speed-run the Whig party's 1850s experience this year they're going to need to find a way to boot Schumer (and probably a few more) "pour encourager les autres."

Now would be a good time for Nancy Pelosi to engineer the defenestration of another past-his-sell-by Dem.

Schumer’s gotta go, man. Put the New York machine guys in timeout for a decade or two while we save the country from the trash they can’t figure out how to dispose of
NEW. Despite Schumer privately counseling Sen. Dems not to fight - looks like Sen. Dems want to have a fight.

Good on the caucus pushing back against their feckless leader. They need to insist that there can be no blank checks for Musk/Trump in any funding bill. www.axios.com/2025/03/12/s...

I don't think you can look at what is brewing in Washington right now and just assume that the US will still be a functioning geopolitical actor this time next year

I know it was edited after the fact, but reading along month-by-month as the ground shifts beneath Shirer's feet is jarringly familiar. The little creeps and weirdos that a few pages later become Obergruppenführer. The asides about how the French and English would never give in on the Sudeten...

How far are we from an “all citizens will be required to change their underwear every half hour” moment?

Kinda hard to expect Susan Collins to work up the gumption to oppose RFK or Tulsi when she knows full well that Elon owns her banking history. (And per WIRED’s latest reporting, probably has the ability to stop her paycheck.)

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Huge fan of Charlie Stross. One of my favorite science fiction authors.
Can't say I'm enjoying living inside one of his novels, though.

We as a (rapidly collapsing) society have got to get much more familiar with the Afrikaner accent, and how stupid it sounds. (I personally recommend The Great South African Bake Off.)

The absolute last thing that Democrats need right now is a cautious, measured institutionalist. Chuck Schumer has been a perfectly cromulent public servant but he is 100% not up to the task of minority leader in 2025.

Having watched with growing alarm the developments of the last 24 and 36 hours in Washington, I thought I’d take a stab at how the US media would cover this story if it was happening in a foreign country. Here’s that story that should be written this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...
