I like how some Japanese model railroaders with very limited space represent mainline trains by cutting them down to single truck length. I think it would be fun to experiment with the same concept but based on North American prototypes...

New (sub)project: making some couplers. They are 1:8 scale models of the ones used by Arthur Heywood on his 15” gauge railways. I have two pairs of them that were commercially made many years ago to use as a pattern. They are white metal whereas I’m making six more by machining brass

I am soldering very small rectangles of brass (6x4.5x0.5 mm) onto equally small brass rods (2mm diameter) in order to make oil flaps for my model rail cars wheel bearings.
A small brass rod held in a steel soldering jog by a 0.5 mm stainless steel wire. The jog is held in a small yellow and green vise. A brass wheel bearing box with its oiling flap closed. An extra long bit of stainless steel wire holds the flap in place temporarily. Same as previous photo, but the oiling flap is open. The wheel bearing mounted on the end of a wheel set.

The screwing from my previous post was done to install some steel plates with threaded holes which allows for quick install and removal of a small vise.
A small yellow and green vise mounted on the front of a workbench. The same vise, mounted on top of the workbench. A 3/4” by 1/4” section of steel bar mounted on the bed of a milling machine. There are 12 holes freshly drilled in it. Some have a bit of green cutting fluid in and around them. The steel bar has now been cut into four pieces. Each has three holes. One is threaded to accept a bolt from the vise, the other two are plain and will receive wood screws to hold the plate to the workbench.
