I built a very narrow (1.5”) shelf along the wall and I glued some reinforcing strips to a L shaped piece of foam core. What am I building? All will be revealed tomorrow night…
Books are weighing down on strips of foam core that are being glued to an L shaped piece of foam core lying on the floor. At the top of the picture, a suspiciously narrow shelf made from angle pine trim is attached to the wall. On the right, parts of an IKEA low shelf is visible. The foam core assembly will end up on top of it.

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

I like how some Japanese model railroaders with very limited space represent mainline trains by cutting them down to single truck length. I think it would be fun to experiment with the same concept but based on North American prototypes...

New (sub)project: making some couplers. They are 1:8 scale models of the ones used by Arthur Heywood on his 15” gauge railways. I have two pairs of them that were commercially made many years ago to use as a pattern. They are white metal whereas I’m making six more by machining brass
