I used Twitter in the past as a sort of thought-vent - sometimes political, sometimes random internet stuff, sometimes life updates. Post-Elon, I haven't had an outlet. I'm going to give this a try.
How is it that people haven't yet figured out that a message titled "BREAKING" is guaranteed to be clickbait garbage?

I mean, the writers still do it, so people must click it, right? Is it like the Nigerian prince spam, you only need a few suckers to make it worth the effort?

So ICE is misreporting their detention numbers. Ordinarily, I'd attribute something like this to error, not malice. But when we're talking about masked thugs grabbing people off the street, I'm betting on malice. What are they hiding? www.notus.org/immigration/...
Congress Requires ICE to Publish Detention Statistics. The Numbers Don’t Add Up.
Researchers tracking detention data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement spotted errors in the agency’s most recent report.

"When NOTUS reached out to her this week, she was surprised . . . 'The paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with,' Keyes told NOTUS via email."

I bet MAHA was written (and hallucinated) by AI - anyone want the other side of that?

The Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” report misinterprets some studies and cites others that don’t exist, according to the listed authors.

Happy May 23!
Looking down from the MWO instrument tower after deicing this morning. About 6 inches of snow so far with more on the way; not too shabby for late May 😀

Keeping a close eye on this one. I'm sympathetic on the pay concerns, and a lot less on the anti-automation arguments. www.wgbh.org/news/local/2...

I'll join the chorus: The US is about to experience a frustrating, inflationary, and sometimes painful period of "supply chain shock."

In English: we're about to run out of a lot of stuff, and many shelves are going to be empty.

And, of course, this is 100% self-inflicted impact of tariffs. <more>

Good line:

But Connolly added that if Trump “was at all serious about cracking down on foreign corruption of U.S. elections, he would start by taking the ‘For Sale’ sign off his own back.”

I would add to this by saying it’s about Trump’s narcissism - not just businesses, but to have other countries bend the knee. But Murphy’s write up is excellent.
Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

The failure of that House rule yesterday really surprised me. It's interesting to me where the Republican holdouts came from. These people have a lot of hills they could choose to die on, and they chose this particular hill.

I got asked yesterday by a friend in San Francisco if Canadians were as upset as he read in the press. My answer was unequivocally “Yes.” They are changing vacation plans, checking where the fruit was grown, while shopping, etc. This photo is my neighborhood coffee shop this morning.

Anyone saying the Democrats got their wallets inspected on the vote is, frankly, being either stupid or a wrecker, or both. The GOP flipped their own people. The Dems got their own reps back into the chamber, at least one limping out of a hospital bed, another with her newborn, and they were united.
