I'm not sure how Sinema has any sway to get money from anyone to lobby. At least here in Arizona, she's absolutely loathed. Why would you pay her to work on your behalf? It's clear she's far more likely to hurt your cause at this point.

(Also, very happy Chandler rejected this.)

In terms of US politics, Bush v. Gore is the defining event of the century. It set the template: a ruthless right that instinctively seeks power & doesn't give a shit about rule of law...and a bunch of hapless, feckless octogenarian Dems worried about the good opinion of centrist opinion columnists.
The 25th anniversary of Bush v Gore is today. The conspiracy mongering & corruption of the GOP has been brewing for a long time.

Roberts, Barrett and Kavanaugh were all on Bush's legal team, where they pushed unfounded legal theories. SC justices were already enmeshed in voter fraud myths.
Here's Sandra Day O'Connor endorsing News Max levels of voter fraud conspiracies in the 2000 election.

"National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" is one of my favorite Christmas movies.

But being an adult means you start siding with the supposedly insufferable neighbors more and more with each passing year. Like, can you imagine living next to Clark Griswold? They have my sympathies.

I feel like, post-2016, journalists, etc have all convinced themselves they're superstars. When that is very much not the case.

The average reader, let alone the average American, doesn't know or care about Olivia Nuzzi. She's a nobody. But desperate journalists are trying to pretend she matters.

A reminder that before the Trump admin/RFK took over this year, the U.S. had officially declared measles eliminated in 2000.
The measles outbreak in South Carolina is “accelerating” with no end in sight following Thanksgiving and other large gatherings, state health officials say.

"Good Fortune" is a movie I saw randomly because a friend wanted to see it. It's so good. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Everyone really should give it a watch. Keanu Reeves is delightful, as is the whole film.
A tribute to the year’s best movies that underperformed at the box office. Sadly, there were a bunch to choose from!

The next administration and Congress need to get serious about corruption and antitrust issues.
The Ellison family’s desire to take over Warner Bros should alarm anyone concerned with U.S. propaganda & media consolidation—

They would own Paramount, Warner Bros, CNN, CBS, HBO, TikTok & a host of major cable channels

Absolutely delightful movie. If you haven't yet seen it, I definitely recommend you do.

One of my favorites of the year, for sure.

the most dangerous threat to our democracy is not Trump but the conservative majority on this Supreme Court

It's dumb that the Golden Globes don't have separate supporting categories. If you're going to use genres for the majority of your awards, then apply it all the way down.

Same with SAG and their annoying refusal to add supporting categories at all for TV.

My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.
The part that I can't figure out is what John Roberts thinks he is doing. He used to seem to be a judge who was very attentive to appearances, I think on a theory that you can't draw too much attention to yourself without undermining your ability to continue to shape the law.

"Jingle All the Way" is an objectively bad movie.

But I enjoy that dumb movie anyway. At least at Christmas time.

There need to be trials and sentences for the monsters who are doing this
My constituent, Wilmer, was mauled by an ICE attack dog despite the fact that, as he has consistently explained, he was not resisting arrest or trying to flee—his wife and young children, all U.S. citizens, were forced to watch helplessly as Wilmer was violently attacked and dragged away.

I'm so tired of these monstrous people in this administration.

Just pure hatred, through and through.

Everyone who supports them should be utterly ashamed.

Wow. Disney is actually celebrating the original theatrical cut.

I know I've seen them, but I was so young, I don't really remember.

I came of age with the 1997 re-issues. That's when I saw them all in theaters again and got into the franchise, in general.
