I feel there can be no canon of games that doesn't *at the very least* include tiny Finnish demoscene games, Polystation and Gameboy hacks from the Middle East and LATAM, half-translated hacked ROMs from South Europe, mobile games from Africa, and the entire corpus of mini-iterative RPGs from Asia.

If you are a writer or designer or anybody helming a project and cannot afford to commission art, you can offer a profit-share contract, especially if you want to buy already-made art for rights of use. If you want advice on how to do that, and a template for such a contract, feel free to reach out.
If the writer can afford a cover, they absolutely should pay for a cover, but a lot of these writers can’t afford a cover, but using a LLM-generated cover could put them into a position where they can afford to pay an artist (through patreon/Kindle Unlimited funds)
