Could I request some Irish history for You’re Dead to Me, please?

Brian Boru
Strongbow
St Patrick
The Famine
The Easter Rising

I really don’t mind what you do, but barring Grainne O’Malley, it feels…like a blank space currently.

Pollling in the Irish #GE24 is now open!

Make sure to check your polling station, and bring some ID with you!

There are a lot of dangerous candidates on the ballot, so after you #VoteLeftTransferLeft, consider continuing preferences to parties that are not actually fascist.

I’m sure your local Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael or Green Party TD’s are lovely people. But lovely people don’t collude in a vote to bury the State’s responsibility for what happened in Mother and Baby Homes. Don’t forget that when you vote today.

In the last week I have read ALL of SJM’s Throne of Glass Series (5008 pages), Martha Wells’ Wheel of the Infinite, Alix E Harrow’s Starling House and am 27% of the way through Sue Burke’s Usurpation.
So…my insomnia is currently winning, but the books are great!

With not one but two magick-related books out at the moment, I spoke with Alan Moore about fiction, sorcery and why, in the end, all art is just pulling a rabbit out of a hat.

The legendary storyteller – who has two new books out – says the act of creation is the purest essence of magic itself

We have SF authors inventing xenobiology, when earth biology is already legitimately mind-boggling.
Day 21 of posting cool mushrooms every day:

The Bleeding Tooth fungus (Hydnellum peckii) has both teeth on its underside and "blood" on its top!

The "blood" is extracellular fluid, which is squeezed out when the fungus absorbs water, increasing pressure until the red fluid is squeezed out!

This is a beautiful piece of writing.
I wrote about Irish English and the nature of dialects in an essay for @stingingfly.bsky.social a few years ago: stingingfly.org/product/wint...

If I built cars that randomly went on fire and ran people down, I too would be concerned about consumers having too many rights.
Elon Musk called Wednesday for the elimination of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, one of the nation’s most powerful watchdog agencies, signaling it could be scrapped as part of a planned review of government spending ordered by President-elect Donald Trump.
Elon Musk wants to ‘delete’ federal financial watchdog as ‘DOGE’ begins work
“Delete CFPB,” the billionaire tech executive running the “Department of Government Efficiency” said in an early-morning post on X.

Following my post yesterday - there is no "middle ground" on abortion when the opposition wants no abortion, full stop. Also @jessicavalenti.bsky.social's substack abortion everyday is the best place in the universe for US abortion news.

Psset if Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk and big corporations paid their fair share we could support everyone in need AND have universal health care AND living wage for everyone AND care economy protections AND so much more
This needs to be said, loud, and often.

All I gotta say is that the people here insisting that reading must involve the eyes have clearly never read somebody for filth.
Apropos of nothing, anybody who says that audiobooks aren’t “real” reading or that people who use them aren’t “real” readers can kiss both my ass and my royalty statement.

Please don't call what RFK Jr. and Jay Bhattacharya are going to do medieval. It's not medieval. It's nothing like the Middle Ages. People in the Middle Ages were happy to try all kinds of things to not die of the plague and if you'd given them antibiotics and vaccines they would have loved it.

Journalists /editors need to frame better & we need to talk more about “if likely, then what’s our game plan”?

"I don't know anything about womenswear and have no opinion on how women dress." @dieworkwear.bsky.social

If only more people who have minimal knowledge about womenswear shared this opinion, the world's happiness levels would noticeably increase.

As I read back over relevant sections of Project 2025, a reminder of the kind of people we're dealing with:

"What is the proper balance of lives saved versus
souls saved?"

I don't even know where to begin with the levels of ableism, theocracy, brazen greed, & chutzpah this statement encapsulates.

I have a 9 year old who actively dislikes ALL music except 3 songs:
Killing In the Name: Rage Against The Machine
Du Hast: Rammstein
And, a recent addition,
We Care A Lot: Faith No More

Apparently anything else is “hard to listen to”.
Anyone have anything else he might like?
