Can we not do the big follow-for-follow things that enable grifters and scammers to quickly build massive audiences? One of the things that makes this place work so well is how well most of us curate our feeds, and undermining that feels like we're bringing back the bad place.

oh so these people do pay attention to who politicians follow on social media, they just don’t care that the vice president follows a bunch of actual neo-nazis
Axios tried to bust James Talarico for following adult content creators on Instagram and I'm genuinely impressed by his campaign's response

It feels like every part of society has been taken over by the dumbest among us and I am so fucking tired.

My body: we need more calories!

Me: no, we are still a little heavier than I would like.

Body: we need that fat to make it through the harsh winter!

Me: modern society makes food readily available in winter.

Body: But we don't want to wake from hibernation!

Me:...you have a good point.

NEW @motherjones.com: Nobody in that GOP group chat praising Hitler or making racist comments was a “kid,” as JD Vance claimed today

I tracked down their ages. (Weirdly, it seems nobody else did.)

Eight of the 11 in the group chat range from 24 to 35. Ages of others are unclear.

But… no “kids”!
No one in the GOP Hitler chat was a "kid"
We checked. Sorry, JD Vance.

I've been watching The Blacklist and it's entirely ridiculous, but I can't stop watching. I find many characters more believable than they really should be because I, too, would do profitable crimes for James Spader if he asked me to.

it's so funny to see America's health insurance companies be like "look. If there's one thing we love it's denying you care. but we ran the numbers - and we cannot BELIEVE we're saying this - and it's cheaper for us to just pay for the vaccines than deal with you going to the ER."
Regardless of the disgraceful nonsense we will likely hear from this administration in the coming days on vaccine “recommendations,” Americas healthcare insurers issued a joint statement tonight saying coverage for Covid and flu shots will remain unchanged from prior years.

Speaks for itself.

Multiple vendors at Hyde Park Street Fair selling items made using spent brass. Came very close to asking them how they felt about selling their wares in the wake of the Kirk shooting, but I didn't actually want to have that conversation

Online Magic can be so funny.

Oh, you have a near infinite combo? I'll go get a snack and come back to the win when your turn times out. Sorry your cool move cost you the game.

Florida, America's flaccid penis, is also striving to be the world's largest petri dish. We truly live in the dumbest timeline.

Any time a Christian claims that trans people are "pushing their beliefs" on people, I just imagine some trans itinerant preacher telling people to repent their cis. And, honestly, I support that a lot more than some of the shit I've heard from "loving" Christians.

If you play D&D, torture your DM with a cleric wielding a pink club with a small horse on it. Ride a giant pig. Hail from the chapel in Rone.
Keep on smashing with your pink pony club. H-O-G-G-O-G-O, I will make this hog go go.

Once you've been kicked out, find a new table and repeat.

Just heard at work: "She made her son go on psych meds just because he was hearing voices. But he graduated school early...he ain't fuckin' crazy."
Umm...graduating early doesn't preclude one from mental health issues. And ignoring things because someone does well at school leads to problems later.

While complaining about people who called out that denim ad, shitty conservative said "ignorance is bliss, they should try it sometime." It's hilarious to me that she is so proud of her ignorance. She also said social media needs to be abolished while talking about all the stuff she sees there...

As a teenager, I always kind of felt like my parents were out of touch and stupid. Then they became Trump voters and teenage me was vindicated.

Every article that quotes the GOP saying that the Dems are obstructing Trump nominees should absolutely mention the GOP blocking Merrick Garland and pushing Amy Coney Barrett through. Do not let the GOP write the narrative.

1G Prius, I appreciate you not speeding dangerously through neighborhoods, but 15 in a 25 is excessive. And coming almost to a complete stop while straddling the turn lane and the lane continuing straight isn't a safety move.

Just heard a coworker talking about her time working for the state:
"They said we just had federal funding cut, so they couldn't get us what we needed, but you know what? Grants."
I don't know what to say to someone who doesn't understand that federal grants ARE federal funding.

If you see this, quote with a robot that isn't from Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who or Transformers.

While I'm not sure the movie did Marvin justice, I am stereotypical elder millennial enough to always have a soft spot for the paranoid android.

Bill Clinton could do the funniest thing and say he frequently saw Trump at Epstein parties, thank Trump for trying to protect him, and claim he is asking contacts whether they might know where the list is.

Remember--the state only owes you a criminal trial if you are the accused. Not because you're interested in the evidence, you think life without parole is lenient, or you like the spectacle.
I want to say this to people on Nextdoor, but I do not want them blasting me with angry reply notifications.
