If even Warren Buffett is ‘going quiet’ but the FT’s sharing rules are louder than a fire alarm, you know markets aren’t the only things tightly regulated.

Exactly when a party controls every lever of power yet can’t pass a basic funding bill, the problem isn’t external opposition but internal paralysis. A majority that can’t govern ends up undermining confidence in its own institutions
"it's a symptom of a deep and abiding dysfunction that Republicans, despite holding the presidency, the Senate and the House, can't fund the government and can't even get themselves to get together in a room to strike a deal."

Sure, Donald 25% cheaper because the turkey is now roughly the size of an oversized chicken nugget. If prices ‘drop’ any further, next year’s Thanksgiving meal will just be a picture of food. Truly emblematic
Trump: "I just saw that Walmart came out last night that Thanksgiving this year will cost 25% less than last year ... that's emblematic of the rest of prices." (They shrunk the turkey and made the meal smaller.)

Leadership without principles, on full display.
Arab leaders said something and Trump agreed.

Then Israel said something different and Trump agreed.

Then Hamas said something different from either of those and Trump agreed, touting it as success.

If you reduce homelessness to ‘crazy people on the street,’ you erase the real causes: poverty, lack of housing, and inadequate care. Talking about ‘our streets’ isn’t a solution it’s just scapegoating instead of addressing the problem.
JD Vance on homelessness: "I don't know why we accepted that it was reasonable to have crazy people yelling at our kids. You should not have to cross the street in downtown Atlanta to avoid a crazy person yelling at your family. Those are your streets."

An interesting detail. If Iranian officials were internally surprised that the strikes caused less damage than expected, it suggests two things: the attacks were either limited or ineffective and the nuclear program is more resilient than many assumed. Strategically significant for all sides.
US signals intelligence picked up Iranian officials talking to each other — i.e. not communicating with the US nor putting on a show for their domestic audience — saying they thought the US bombing Iranian nuclear sites would've done more damage.

Yet more indication the nuclear program survived.
Washington Post: "The United States obtained intercepted communication between senior Iranian officials discussing this month’s military strikes on Iran’s nuclear program and remarking that the attack was less devastating than they had expected."

Trump provokes with identity attacks:
He undermines Jewish identity, demeans women and trans people, and deliberately divides society. His extreme rhetoric follows a populist strategy: attention through calculated outrage. Whether this is still “normal” is debatable but it’s troubling for democracy.
????
Trump wraps his speech on the big bill: "Schumer - our great Palestinian senator. He's changed. He used to like Jewish people, now he's totally against Jewish people. Try the weightlifting numbers some day if you want to see big differences. In a million years women will never catch these numbers"

Exactly! Europe urgently needs the political courage to offer clear, bold solutions to its biggest challenges. Only then can we effectively counter right-wing extremism and build a truly united, fair future.
What’s missing in Europe is the political courage to articulate a compelling alternative to far-right messaging – one that makes an affirmative case for EU-wide action on the issues that matter: common security, managed migration & shared prosperity

Isn’t about time fellow Europens?
Europe should be standing up to Trump and Putin – instead it is mirroring them | Alberto Alemanno
Public opinion is clamouring for closer EU cooperation. The last thing we need is Ursula von der Leyen pandering to the far right, says Alberto Alemanno, Jean Monnet professor of EU law at HEC Paris

It is important that state sovereignty is respected and that actions contribute to de-escalation, not escalation. Governor Newsom is sending a strong message that safety and the rule of law must be upheld not through provocation, but through cooperation and prudence.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom denounced President Trump for inflaming the situation in Los Angeles by sending federal forces and warned the public to “not give in to him.”

“California may be first, but it clearly will not end here,” he said. wapo.st/4kugTjo

Sure, no steel and aluminum, no war but if having your own production is the key, why not have your own strategy too? 🤔 Lutnick says: no raw materials, no fight. Whether that’s enough to run a country is another question.
Lutnick: "The big issue is you can't fight a war without steel and aluminum production in America. If you don't have the ability to make your own steel and aluminum, you can't fight a war. And that is what the president is doing."

The bill deepens inequality, threatens basic services, and raises the structural deficit without clear economic benefits for the public. Socio-economically, it prioritizes short-term politics over long-term stability and fairness.
The US president's landmark tax bill will add $2.4tn to the US deficit by 2034, the congressional fiscal watchdog has warned, in the latest blow to Trump as he seeks to push the legislation through the Senate. https://on.ft.com/4ktGid7

Powerful when conviction and loyalty matter more than money.
From @theathleticfc.bsky.social: Bruno Fernandes was reportedly offered more than double his wages to move to Saudi Arabia. He rejected that offer. It is refreshing to see someone have the conviction to turn down that amount of money, our columnist writes.

Although tariffs may appear on the surface to protect American interests, in a highly interconnected global economy, they can end up hurting the very U.S. companies they are meant to support.
That’s why it’s said that tariffs on the EU undermine the competitiveness of American businesses.

Language should not be monopolized by individuals, as this threatens the foundation of an open and pluralistic society. It’s important to resist the hijacking of political terms and stand up for clear and fair language.

Silence in moments like these is not neutrality, but a statement in favor of the status quo and ultimately against the openness that his own career has benefited from.
David Pogue: “I’m wondering what your thought is on the ban on foreign students, the proposal. I mean, you were one of those kids, right?”
Elon Musk: “Yeah. I mean, I think we wanna stick to, you know, the subject of the day, which is, like, spaceships, as opposed to, you know, presidential policy"

This perspective is troubling. Entering a country legally with a visa shouldn’t mean being treated with constant suspicion. Calling a visa merely a ‘privilege’ frames lawful presence as a favor rather than a legal process. In a democracy, fundamental rights shouldn’t depend on immigration status.
Tammy Bruce: "Getting a visa is one thing. But we don't then stop looking at you when you're here when you're on a visa. This is not a right. It's a privilege."
