The worst single-day crime spree in modern Washington history, of course, took place on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump issued no order to the National Guard to intervene -- Mike Pence did -- and later pardoned the perpetrators.
Citing a nonexistent crime crisis, Trump plans to take over the Washington DC police and put troops in the streets of the nation's capital. Contrary to his claims, violent crime in DC is at a 30-year low. @katierogersnyt.bsky.social Campbell Robertson Chris Cameron www.nytimes.com/live/2025/08...

🧵NOT BY ME, this is a post from someone who wants to remain anonymous but works extensively with trans people pre-transition. They were asked by someone “why do you think that’s so much [coverage of trans people] in the news at the moment?”

This was their response:

This is so fucked up. ICE agents in Massachusetts smashed the window of a car to grab a Guatemalan guy who was with his wife. They were waiting for their lawyer to arrive because he has a pending asylum case.

jk rowling funded a case going before the supreme court that argues it should be legal to discriminate against and persecute trans ppl.

yet still we have to listen to ‘centrists’ claiming she isn’t bigoted she just has ‘a difference of opinion’.

no trans ppl have a voice in these proceedings.

one of the worst things about this government is that it is made up of a variety of people with their own personal terrible obsessions and none of them want to (or can, in this case) stop the others

Trump: tariffs

Musk: DOGE

RFK: vaccines

We've blown right past "Show me your papers or be arrested" and straight to "We're going to forcefully detain you and rough you up before we even ask for your papers."

And given the racial profiling inherent in this practice, these people are basically just acting like the 1880s Klan.
“He told agents they had the wrong guy, but they aggressively ordered him to get on the ground. They didn’t allow him to show ID to prove he’s a citizen and instead they grabbed him, put him face down on the pavement, handcuffed him and took out his wallet.”

The people grabbing the stove with both hands and putting their faces on it are not going to stop no matter how bad the pain gets because they simply refuse to believe that grabbing the stove is bad. And even if they did accept it for a moment, they’d never accept the consequences of being wrong.
White supremacy is so wild because people deep in it really believe that bad things don’t happen to them, like they’re main characters in the story of the world. They can’t accept that they can make bad decisions or even be wrong, because they’re inherently “right” people. Bonkers shit.

So now JKR is attacking ace people? Seriously?

She is the worst. Needless to say: Your gender and sexuality are valid, and they are YOUR business. And she and her TERF army can go f**k themselves. (See, I told you that I've been swearing a lot more this year.)

Retweeting this 1000x.
The message is: crowd large.

Many politicians, administrators, and business leaders, in bowing to Trump, have drawn confidence and comfort from the perceived vibe shift.

Events like this puncture that delusion.
You can stop asking where the mass opposition is. It's everywhere.
People poured out to protest not only what Trump has done—and what they fear he will do next.

A while back I mentioned I helped to build a government AI tool. DOGE "deleted" (fired) my whole org (@alt18f.bsky.social) and took the tool to become their "AI-first strategy."

But what is the strategy? What are they actually planning to do?

I’m trying to piece it together. Here’s what I think 🧵
