I don't think people understand that if you shut down the government, ICE and CBP do NOT shut down. They're funded by supplemental money from the BBB. That's why dems are separating the DHS funding bill and asking for restrictions. I want them to demand a rescission of that funding or shut DHS down

I can't emphasize how radical this all is. There's never been a bill to mass invalidate driver's licenses at this scale. It will create immense fear for trans people. They could be pulled over and arrested for driving with an invalid license. They could be ratted out by people around them.

The rabbit hole on the proposed Hagerstown detention center is deep.
“We were prisoners of war.” The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation says they successfully exited a $29.9M contract after a "rogue" tribal official signed on to design the national ICE detention sites, citing the "harm and trauma" mirrored in the project. The Washington County facility was one of them.
ICE Now Owns a Hagerstown Warehouse. A Plan to Design It Is in Shambles.
The first confirmed site in a proposed immigration detention network has been purchased near Hagerstown, even as the Native American nation tied to its design work says it has exited the contract

I mean, I know plenty of people have already pointed this out, but it needs to be hammered home that this is how fascism works. It demands you accept lies as truth, even when we’ve all seen who has actually been demanding violence (Trump and his goons).
Homan: "I begged for the last two months on TV for the rhetoric to stop. I said in March -- if the rhetoric doesn't stop, there is gonna be bloodshed. And there has been. I wish I wasn't right. I don't want to see anybody die."

Do not fall for this garbage. DHS came into my city with an offensive posture, conducted itself as an invader, often attacked residents without any plausible connection to immigration enforcement, violently seized people off the streets. Now it’s our fault people died?

Any American watching this play out between regime forces and journalists overseas would recognize it for what it is.

An extraordinary document. Read it.

“Attached to this order is an appendix that identifies 96 court orders that ICE has violated in 74 cases. … ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.”

Maybe this will help you understand why people are pissed. I get that abolish might not be on the table right now, but he asked for NOTHING
“Abolish” or “defund” aren't within grasp in 2026. But where are:

- End qualified immunity
- Rewrite use-of-force so this crap isn't ruled “within policy”
- Overturn July 8 mandatory detention memo
- Reinstate TPS
- Open up detention centers, enforce humane conditions

He doesn’t even *ask* for it.
Chuck Schumer just announced demands on DHS to avoid shutdown:
1. End roving patrols, tighten rules on warrants
2. Enforce accountability & unified code of conduct for agents
3. No more masks & require bodycams

There are *already* standards on much of this.

The issue is DHS isn't following them!

@vanhollen.senate.gov I'm seconding this. We need leadership that will move forward and protect others, not meet fascism with "compromise"
@chrismurphyct.bsky.social I AM BEGGING YOU: Please lead a vote of no-confidence in Schumer as Minority Leader. It's a closed door, secret ballot conference vote. We cannot let this man, who is not made for this moment, be our downfall. He's not a bad man, he's just not up to History's moment.
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.
