Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

The nicest thing I can say here is that it’s good that the story starts with her getting a divorce because it was probably a good way of limiting the damage

One of the interesting parts of this book was that the iron axe head was as transformative for indigenous warfare (at least in Eastern North America) as the gun because they could easily breach the wooden palisades used in Native fortifications

If you're in the UK and want decent, free basic training in safeguarding then:

1) register an FA account
2) do all their online free courses for coaches/volunteers/committee members.

Hell, last time i checked the full Welfare Officer course was only 20 quid.

All certainlu better than nothing.
Is there a course that you’d suggest? I’m certainly not at that point account wise but feel like this is a good thing to learn now

Interesting dynamic where Odysseus thinks some of the guys trying to bang his wife aren't that bad and don't deserve to die but Athena is like "hahahaha, no, we're going to murder All Of Them."

See also Lisa Taddeo’s superb 2010 piece “Rachel Uchitel is not a Madam” in New York Magazine, which clued me into how that hallmark of American capitalism, efficiently segmenting the market, worked in context of nightclubs, bottle girls and men at various income levels. nymag.com/news/feature...
A Look Inside the Life of Rachel Uchitel and Fellow VIP Hosts and Bottle Girls -- New York Magazine - Nymag
And the bottle girls who work at clubs are not prostitutes. As Tiger Woods’s very public escapades through the 21st-century courtesan economy suggest, it’s all much more complicated than that.

A Chesterton line that I often think of -

"There is in the world a very aged rioter and demagogue who breaks into the most refined retreats with the dreadful information that all men are brothers, and wherever this leveller went on his pale horse it was Father Brown’s trade to follow."

The Sopranos is probably the Rosetta Stone of modern American reaction: it consists of people who bemoan the loss of an imagined past they mainly got from movies, claim victimization based on identity but hate when others do it, and view the people who build the society they prey on as suckers.
