The frost came last week. I’ve left these up so far because o keep seeing the birds land on the stems and pull out the seeds.

One lone snapdragon has decided this is its moment to shine and suddenly started blooming.

My daughter is apparently telling her friends about my soldering iron. I’m being sent jewelry they think I can fix. 😳

Hi #KidLitChat. My internet is down tonight. So I only have phone data. I’m going to catch up on the chat in the morning once they’ve restored the outage here.

Easy to implement #writing craft edits that will immediately improve your WIP (from a pro #betareader):

1. Know your "glitter" words. Everyone has words they overuse in their prose (and they get literally everywhere). CTRL+F your glitter words and cut them where possible. (1/7)

#Yallfest has been so fun. The verse novel panel this afternoon was just as great as I’d been hoping.

Last year this was such a wonderful retreat. And I’m so grateful for the Kay Yoder Scholarship for History that allowed me to go to the @highlightsfound.bsky.social Novel-in-Verse retreat. Highly recommend! #KidLit

#KidLitChat This fall, Denton Loving reached out about a last minute opening at the Table Rock Writer's Conference. I literally was invited Saturday, and drove up Monday. :D

I did the Flash Fiction track. I learned so much. I made some great local connections. And found other KidLit authors, too!

#KidLitChat This past year I went to several workshops. Hindman in Kentucky was very enjoyable. I came as an assistant for @kdwinchester.bsky.social, but they let me audit. So I audited poetry workshops by @karigunterseymour.bsky.social and Denton Loving. And a class by George Ella Lyon...

I would absolutely LOVE to be able to do this workshop on verse novels. I mean, look at the teachers! Our budget is super tight at the moment though. So I don't know it will happen.

I love listening to writing craft & art podcasts to find relevant topics to my current project/goals. Writing excuses. 3 Point Perspective.

And of course, making our writing podcast, KidLit Deconstruction Zone (@kdzpodcast.bsky.social), is incredibly special since we choose the topic! #kidlitchat

Thorough lover of podcasts over here.

I’d love to hear which ones you most enjoy!

To your point earler, I've been bookmarking podcasts, too--there are some great ones out there. #kidlitchat

I was fortunate to do a fall course with Kyo Maclear, and also attended CANSCAIP in Toronto, where you can do one-on-one meetings with editors. Both turned into community building opportunities. This is what I love about Bookish, which I host--I meet fabulous people and learn so much #kidlitchat

Easy topic this week. We're gearing up for Jan 1 registration for Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers (wifyr.com), which I help run. We had an event last Fri and Sat. We're finalizing the website. Planning our Jan kickoff and March Ahead retreat, and the conference in June. #kidlitchat

#KidLitChat The Time change has really thrown me this year. And I had to sleep right during this chat. 😴

But catching up now!

I’m going to #Yallfest Friday/Saturday! I think proximity and cost both affect that decision for me.

Do I have any friends here on BlueSky planning to be at #Yallfest this weekend?

I'm planning to be there. And looking forward to hanging out with Kendra@readappalachia.bsky.social over the weekend.

Especially excited for @hannsawyerr.bsky.social and @ambsmcbride.bsky.social sessions. Love #NIV!

I'm feeling kind of pleased with myself. I was sitting in car line trying to compose a poem, and without looking it up, I managed 3 stanzas of Rime Royale! Double checked that I had the form right when I got home. And it was! The form is starting to stick!
