My anger at having to stand outside my kid’s school for two hours to ensure none of their classmates, parents, or teachers get kidnapped by my own government is only slightly tempered by the amazing outpouring of support from other parents and especially neighbors who stand against this bullshit.

It's weird hearing virologists say they keep being surprised by SARS-CoV-2 evolution. The pattern of variant evolution the and explanation for it have been very clear for years now. More variant evolution driven by within-host divergence and among-host diversification is exactly what is expected.

I guess one thing this year has shown is that when you appoint social media trolls to senior government positions because of their social media trolling you are inevitably going to end up with senior government officials trolling social media.

This is authoritarian rot in plain sight. A DOJ weaponized against “enemies” of a sitting president isn’t law enforcement — it’s vengeance. That’s how democracies die: not overnight, but when power decides dissent is a crime.
