I used to shop at the brew shop (further away in the CBD) and was one of the people who started shopping at the closer one as it improved over time. Now the CBD one is closing and the guy who owns it seems to think I'm a cause because I shifted away. He failed at competing TBH.

A very senior IT guy at big Aotearoa company adamant nobody should go near Alexa etc or cloud-store security cameras either but it's all a coin-toss because when you buy any 'smart' stuff decide whether you want China or US to spy on your stuff... first. The other side will get it soon after anyway

You know who doesn't rush to buy wi-fi-enabled "smart" appliances? IT security people. I had one regale me with a story about a "smart" heater that could be remotely made to bypass its own thermostat and keep heating. Ideal for burning your enemy's house down.
