Slept on this. Mostly, it's about trust.

Recent to the grievance list: MLS announced dates for playoffs and didn't even stick to that. League journos largely shrugged that off.

It'll be fine (fans will adjust), but I do not trust the tradeoff will be 100% worth it.
I’m fine with the change, but…

Press box guy would like the concerned paying folk to sit down and stfu
If I see one more post about games in January in a cold-weather market I'm going to cry.

I live in Chicago. I get it sucks going to games in cold markets in Nov, Dec and Feb. But the tradeoff of a handful more games in those months in a few markets is 100% worth it for what it means for MLS growth.

Inter Messi has suffered, folks.
Don Garber deflects a question about what kind of pushback they got from northern markets on this move. He admits that northern markets will suffer from this, but suggests that this is balanced by southern markets having suffered for years in the summer heat.

In addition to all the other crises this document release brings (the casualness of it all, the enmeshed power structure that crosses party/ideology), this story is now a full-blown crisis for the paper that sells itself on keeping power accountable.
The question everyone is asking right now is this: NYT had deep access into all of this in real time and reported none of it. Why? In consequence, no NYT reporting on this subject is trustworthy.

Notice he allegedly said he would pass it to a “political reporter.” Wasn’t one of the reasons the Watergate scandal broke open in the Washington Post because reporters treated it as a crime story and not a political story?
To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

This event is not for me, I guess.
Another price increase for the 2026 World Cup…

Sensing strong demand, FIFA raised the cost of many tickets to record-setting heights — the first large-scale implementation of its “variable pricing” strategy.

I workshopped too many variations of MLS divisions while killing time during Covid.
This is where my 5-division format landed (note the postseason difference): #MNUFC

Huge scoop from Ed, who had several years of financial reports leaked to him. OpenAI has been over-reporting their revenue. The company is even less profitable than we knew.
Exclusive: Based on documents viewed by this newsletter, OpenAI spent over $12.4 billion on inference from 2024 to September 2025. As part of its Microsoft revenue share, it sent $493.8m in 2024/$865.8m Jan-Sep 2025, implying lower revenues than previously reported.

The first and last lines of Joni Ernst’s legacy as a human on earth will be that she was instrumental in the confirmation of the Sec of Defense most hostile to women serving in military, and she knew that when she voted for him.

Dating tip:

Miss your long-distance love as much as FSeattle misses PKs: almost most of the time.

To my grieving FSeattle friends:

Your team made just 53% of their PK attempts.

You team lost to the better team: home, away, postseason.

Sit down.

As you settle in for the final R16 match, remember FSeattle posted an historic choke job last night. Yet, they’re an aggrieved bunch; you must consider their plastic summer trophy & discount all the ways they failed in the series, particularly last night (when it mattered the most). #MNUFC

Best in-person match I’ve seen. Hands down.
What took it over the top? Bathroom rush after 90 and before PK filled with “Fuck Seattle!”
Never been more proud to pee.

Rosales 🟥 looked worse from WW than it was.
Trapp turnover on 2nd FSea goal was worse than Duggab’s whiff.
First FSea goal was all-around laziness.
Lotta work to get this even. #MNUFC
Colder than I expected.
Screaming for a weird goal. #MNUFC

Street fight in the middle of winter’s entry prompts questions:
Is “First goal is so important” the new “Goals change games”?
Is Ramsey a magician or have the Loons found the ceiling?
FSeattle doesn’t leave much room for debate in a 2-1 win. #MNUFC

The best news obit I've read about Dick.
Cheney is best known as the divisive and powerful 9/11-era vice president. Raised in Casper, he was also a devoted husband, avid outdoorsman and close advisor to his daughter, Liz Cheney.

2H was the sleepy 45 we expected throughout. Out-of-form Harvey + Gressel defense + unlucky deflection was the difference.
This “great” FSeattle team remains beatable.
#MNUFC Need: Set pieces to return, win more 50-50s, touches to be softer, and passes to be stronger. That’ll unleash the counter.
Half to forget…except stoppage!

Ferreira assisted on FSeattle’s 3rd goal? Nah, scuffed shot. Learning chaos ball can go the other way.

For Loons: Nectar got tired of the shit; need him to assert himself more. Löd arrived; need Pereyra. Fix the right side; FSeattle is chugging the panic.

Go figure.
