🏳️‍⚧️ I'm the trans rights activist that they warned you about

Deputy Director of Communications at the Human Rights Campaign.

Previously spent 20+ years impersonating a journalist. I have thoughts about the news
Pinned
when you tell a trans person that we are brave, you are reminding us that it requires bravery to exist as a trans person, that we are under threat, that many (including you?) would not choose to live as we live, or to be as we are (as if it was a choice for us)

do you think we need these reminders?

one of the stories I was assigned & refused was a hit piece on then-Gov. Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania. I was supposed to dig up dirt on how he supposedly stood to personally benefit from recreational cannabis legalization in his state.

at the time he was an avowed pponent of cannabis legalization.
all I'll add is that in my news career, there were stories I refused to write, you can do that if you're an ethical journalist

there's an element of the Epstein coverage that reminds me of coverage of the Gary Condit scandal in 2001, which dominated political news until September of that year

folks, you gotta filter everything you see through a skepticism filter first

even if it aligns with your worldview. ESPECIALLY if it aligns with your worldview

extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence

So far, the most popular photograph of mine on cara.app is this one. Gosh, I wish I could have said hi to her and told her what an amazing outfit she was wearing...

I am not prepared to give MTG credit for anything, especially given that despite her recent pivots on certain topics, she would still see me as an unholy abomination that must be destroyed

that said, I hope she continues to sow chaos in MAGA world

I bet he runs, knowing full well it's illegal. The 2028 campaign will kick off long before anyone actually has to register as a candidate, and he'll try to create some specter of inevitability by doing his fascist rallies in the hopes that that will browbeat the courts into letting him on the ballot
Trump posts an image of a guy holding a "Trump 2028" sign on Truth Social. Looks like he's on one.

If you're gonna steal someone's photos to run scams on the internet, maybe don't use photos that include the real person's name right on the image 😂

we need to teach adults the difference between love vs. infatuation, attraction, etc.

kids, teens, can be forgiven for getting it wrong, but adults really oughtta know better

in the pre-social media days, I used to have to moderate comments at the bottom of online news articles for a medium/smallish local newspaper, and it was a complete cesspool and a miserable task that ate up a lot of time
everyone that thinks moderation is very easy and you just do it like SA did and watch the threads and give people timeouts have no idea what scaling looks like lol. there are 212,000 accounts on SA right now with 3000 logged in users. bsky has 40 million accounts.
here’s the thing about 100% bespoke, entirely human, organic free-range no artificial colors moderation: do you have any idea how insanely expensive that is and how hard it is to scale even for a smallish social media website like this one

does he have any clue how much he comes across like George Wallace defending segregation here?
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

I think my allergies to cats and dogs are getting worse. Used to be I only had a problem if I petted the critter, now just being in a house with one gives me difficulty

as someone who really loves aminals, this is extremely unfair 🙁

How much snow will DC get this winter???

Our winter outlook has dropped.

Details, details and more details at this link: www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2025...
Settle in for a chilly winter around D.C., but snowfall looks modest
Our forecast calls for 8 to 14 inches of snow in the D.C. area, and up to a foot and a half in colder spots north and west of the city.

The strike is not about whether or not you approve of Starbucks coffee. It's about the workers, who like all workers deserve equitable treatment and fair pay. That is the issue. Why bring up your personal feelings about the coffee? Nobody in this conversation cares. Start another thread about it.
