Travis is doing his best Saul Bloom and Patrick is a dead ringer for Turk Malloy.
I love them both but Travis and Patrick look like they’re running a traveling medicine show in the Great Depression

Golf is a hobby where you can spend $1,000+ before you even swing a club on a course and your 4 hours of futility costs around $80 without a cart and any range balls.
Absolutely laughable to call gaming "one of the most expensive hobbies around" because a video game costs ten dollars more. Gamers are children and should be treated with distain.

Marc is on the board of Meta. I have heard from people who have told me that they literally briefed him as a board member on how none of what he's now spouting is true
Incredible to see Marc Andreesseen, master of the universe elite thinker w/billions under management, cite Shellenberger & Benz as reliable sources.

If he had all this inside visibility into the rise of a “”censorship edifice”” over “12 yrs”…why didn’t he say anything?

People also just fundamentally do not understand the internal dynamics of China and that XHS is more or less exclusively by and for university educated city dwellers, so they assume the functional equivalent of "a day in my life as a PM in NYC" is universal

And how did these liberal democracies rebuild? With what money and under what security environment?
By the time the liberal democracies were returning to wealth, the US was indisputably the world’s superpower and was determined to stay that way. Sure, it suited her allies to be carried along in her wake, but it suited the US as well.

A shocking number of Americans prefer to look on the bright side of anything that doesn't have the US government (or even worse, American Democrats) associated with it.

I think this is giving them way too much credit since at least some of them are butthurt Congress took away their path to Internet stardom.
i don’t think the tiktok users seriously moving to rednote think that the chinese govt is benign

but they know ours isn’t either, soooo
And again, I am NOT a fan of China! I do not think they are benign!

But I thought the American way to deal with foreign adversaries used to include a key component of “make cooler and better stuff and cultural outputs” than they do!

the 'they're all corrupt, nothing matters' attitude is one of the reasons Russia is a godawful place and it's very worrying how much it's spreading in the United States
Since the “at their core, do they really *believe* in anything?” question is also leveled at the Democrats our core problem may be that a broad enough swath of the public believes that politics is all Kayfabe so why not vote for the most cynical bastard who promises to hurt your perceived enemies.

This has also been happening when Chinese students come to the US, yet there isn't a massive American Exodus to the PRC. Wonder why.
Propaganda about human rights violations of another government don't work when your own government is funding and supporting active genocides and blatant corruption.

So they're dismissing the governments, and talking to the people.

None of you are learning Mandarin. It's easier for the PRC to just give you their English propaganda.
The U.S. government is about to be PISSED that the RedNote (Xiaohongshu chinese tiktok) app is #1 in social networking right now on GooglePlay.

When Tiktok gets banned, we aren't going to Meta platforms. Collectively, we would all rather learn Mandarin than be force-fed American propaganda.
