We don’t talk enough about how American fascism is a blend of authoritarian capitalism, Christian Nationalism, millenarianism, a Freudian death cult, and adoration of the dumbest, cheapest shit you would find stuffed in the closet of a pack rat next to Jeff Gordon commemorative Pepsi cans.

Many of the places under a tsunami warning or watch are *only* served by public broadcasting.

Thanks to Congressional Repubs, including AK's Sullivan & Begich, the stations that disseminate warnings could run out of money to operate w/in a few months.

Because who needs tsunami warnings, amirite?

It's become clear that this administration is just a protracted war on anybody who's read a book without pictures in it. It's a miracle we're all still getting up and going to work every morning. The psychological drain is the point, and I'm increasingly grateful to the people who are still decent.

“Today’s mafia is transnational but not ethnic. Its criminals have multiple passports and offshore accounts and no national allegiances. To them, countries are land masses to be stripped and sold for parts…”
This paragraph was written in January 2024. The election outcome was already evident. What the mafia state needed was a passive citizenry with baseless trust in corrupt institutions. Otherwise they might actually rise up against the authoritarian threat. sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/americas-l...

“The realization that the answer to the question “is it authoritarianism or is it a grift?” was always a simple and unhesitant yes is the key. The ideology and the performance and the theft was and is the point. And they will not stop until they have everything and we have nothing.”
Fascism is theft.

The lawlessness. The cruelty. The brutality. It is a means of asserting power and providing a cover for the wealthy to steal everything they can.

This is an all-out robbery and there will be nothing left unless we stop them.

Really fascinating that years ago all political and economic focus was steered toward tech to the detriment of education, critical thinking, and disciplines like the humanities that promote empathy and we ended up in a fascist tech dominated dystopia where everyone’s drowning in conspiracy theories.

Authoritarianism and war share similar solutions.

One of them, and we really need to start working toward this, is a mass strike. This would be hard, stressful, and painful. But we need to have this conversation. Now.

Ew. Really gross that they’re copying your stuff (and not even well). @sarahkendzior.bsky.social
It is wild looking back at these 2016 articles and seeing watered-down versions of them now written by rich people who denigrated or even threatened me at the time.

I spilled my blood and they peddle it as sangria.

“If you have ever read or repeated the poem “First they came for….,” know that the incarcerated are among the earliest citizens who are subjected to the cruelty of authoritarians. They are low-hanging fruit, because so many of us have sanctioned violence against them.”

Thanks, Sarah, for helping us navigate these weird and trying times! 😊

Art class should never stop being a thing. Like if right after lunch we all got to go down to the basement for an hour, throw on a smock, and make collages out of old magazines while somebody's eccentric, slightly witchy aunt tells us how great we're doing, I feel like we'd all be in a better place.

How does she write about these terrible things that are happening, and that she predicted would happen, with such beautiful, fascinating skill?
She wrote this about the late great Georgia O’Keeffe, but it applies to her as well.
“She wanted to show a cruel world something beautiful without lying.”

Firing volunteers. Genius.
“To be clear: these are volunteer roles. Unlike so many vital federal workers, I didn't lose my job - just the opportunity to serve our country alongside thousands of other experts on FACs across federal agencies.”
I just received notice that the Advisory Council for Climate Adaptation Science for the Department of the Interior has been eliminated. It was an honor to serve alongside other experts to advance science-informed management of natural and cultural resources in the face of climate change. 1/

I escaped poverty because I am a scientist.

And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation.
