Listening to the news in French- of course they’re talking about ICE raids- and I’m reminded that in French it’s l’ICE, and I’m never going to be able to refer to them as anything else.

If only there was a special shampoo for fascists.

Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game.

The greatest enemy of positive social change is cynicism about what can be changed.

Me: (doomscrolling, muttering) that’s not how this works. That’s now how any of this works.

My niece, 7: not how any of what works?

Me: um. I was just reading about… someone…being wrong about… laws… (closes news)

This Yougov survey contains an important finding: people who rely heavily on ChatGPT rate it as being "good" at tasks that we ABSOLUTELY know for sure it is very bad at

imo, this is a strong piece of evidence these heavy users simply do not ever check outputs

Oh dear you’re going to want to read this. Looks like DOGErs were caught exfiltrating NLRB data, likely on unions, for private (seemingly Elony) use. This is must read. What we’ve all suspected. But now details. www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n...

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind.

An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one."

The other said, "Take him anyway."

So they did.

/9 This is my point: someone who thinks the First Amendment should protect speech they like is not a free speech hero. The Nazis who marched at Skokie were not free speech heroes: given power they would have radically repressed speech. The same goes for the Right bewailing censorship on campus.
March 20, 2025 at 7:45 PM
And THIS is why it matters. The whole “campus free speech” debate has never been about speech, it’s been about the way that students and professors say things that the Right doesn’t like, and when the Right says horrifying shit protestors will show up and keep them accountable.
/5 That has led many free speech orgs to accept the narrative that universities are somehow uniquely censorious in a way that is uniquely dangerous —- with Trump is now cheerfully using as part of the justification to regulate university speech.
