New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

One of Elon Musk's big gripes with Wikipedia is that his entry there has a whole section on his salute during his inauguration speech earlier this year. His Grokipedia entry doesn't mention it at all, but the "Nazi salute" Grokipedia entry says this:

Excellent @stephenharrison.com piece about Wikipedia, breaking news, and the right wing outrage machine that's kicked into high gear around articles about Charlie Kirk and the killing of Iryna Zarutska.

Don't get me wrong. I'm an AI optimist. But sometimes, when I talk with people who work for the AI heavilyweights, they sound like the people I talked to at Facebook before 2017. They thought they could do only good. They only listened to their leader. Believed his words. Then it went horribly wrong

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

A friend of mine is a fan of the French Revolution and it’s been fascinating learning that its original leaders kept raising the bar on purity and dedication to the cause until they all ended up being guillotined as well.
