Writer (The Ruin, The Scholar, The Good Turn, The Murder Rule). Irish living in Perth. OUT NOW: What Happened To Nina? (An Amazon Book of the Year).
It’s always a nervous time when a new book goes into the world. Grave won’t be out in the world until May, and Jay’s feedback is my first (outside of my editors!) so it means a hell of a lot. Thank you, Jay, for reading and posting!
A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read, but as it’s @dervlamctiernan.bsky.social , no surprise there.
A murdered body rising from the Irish boglands. Even when the case is moving slowly, Dervla offers plenty to keep the pages turning. And the ending!! - Brilliant.
Sadly, you all have to wait till May for this one.

This is horrendous. I’m writing in Scrivener at the moment, but everything moves to Word once it gets to editing stage. The book will move from editor to editor within the publishing house. How can we protect our work in these circumstances?
This is maddening if you use MS word to write books. Opt out to stop them using your writing to train A.I. Please share.

It’s time for the studios to come off the sidelines. After this industry has spent decades fighting piracy, it cannot stand idly by while tech companies steal full libraries of content for their own financial gain.
Writers Guild Calls on Studios to Take “Immediate Legal Action” Against AI Companies
The union is arguing that tech companies "looted the studios’ intellectual property" while Hollywood's major companies stood by.

Beautifully said.
"Prompt Engineers" swear they are doing something b/c they had A Thought. But you fools. You bores. You absolute fucking turnips.

The Art isn't the Thought, the Idea. The Art is The Work.

And this isn't some art hoe bullshit, this is about craft.

Spent the day dropping off proofs for my new book (out next year), and chatting with lovely booksellers and it is so obvious that bookselling is a tough, tough business but also I really REALLY want to open a bookshop please.

Completely agree. This is yet another vanity publishing scam. They hope that by throwing in the term ‘AI’ it will look important and innovative and different from every vanity publishing grift we’ve seen before. But it’s the same shit, different day.
Please, if you want to self-pub your book, then use your monies for an editor, a proofreader and a cover artist.

Real people, with real talent, who'll work with you to make your book the best book it can be.

Not these talentless, techbro, vanity press grifters.

Has anyone seen Gladiator yet? Because was that two movies stuck together to make one movie or what?

So I got a message from someone a couple of weeks ago that I wasn’t 100% sure how to respond to, so I didn’t and now it’s been two weeks and every time I try to write a response I have a minor panic attack due to guilt about not responding earlier, so I still don’t respond and this is not sensible.

So very impressed to see UQP publisher Aviva Tuffield as one of the drivers of this fine initiative (I’m sure the citizenry too will be inspired to track down these books as well!) www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

I feel like this is a stupid question and probably I should just google it, but for the sake of conversation ... how does Bluesy pay for itself? There are no ads, right?

I'm writing a new book and I have a deadline so of course I want to do ANYTHING but write ... but also am excited about this book and enjoying writing more than anything else I'm doing ... but still looking for distraction to avoid actually writing 🤷‍♀️

My kid is doing French at school and he has to cook a French recipe and do a presentation about it which is why he is currently making duck a l’orange with his dad in the kitchen and profiteroles for dessert and everything smells DELICIOUS and today is a good day 🇫🇷

What’s the craic? Anyone want to talk about writing? Not sure I want to talk about writing tbh, as have been writing all day and am slight head-wrecked. Anyone watched good TV lately? Is S2 Silo out yet?

Hello all, I’m a recent arrival. Still figuring this place out, but looking forward to talking to interesting people about interesting things.

How are you all finding people to follow on this app? I’m just scrolling through the Discover section and kind of following anyone I think might be interesting.. presumably the only way? Trying to avoid following only writers and publishing people to avoid echo chamber effect!
