We set out to map a detailed proteome of the human DRG and nerve using DIA-MS as a reference to the field, and I think we've succeeded! Lots of proteins (& lots of ion channels), with the data is fully searchable. It's also available on @sparc.science

All of NIH funding to Northwestern University is frozen. This pause includes noncompeting approved funding, new and competing grants with fundable scores. No reimbursements for money already spent have been received since March. This situation is rarely reported so please Please get the word out!

🧪 NIH grant rejections have more than doubled this year, with over 2,500 applications withdrawn. This surge follows the quiet closure of around 100 funding categories, impacting early-career and diverse researchers and adding to setbacks for medical research. #Academicsky

Our latest work using RNAseq to compare the human DRG-derived cell line to human primary sensory neurons and several hiPSC lines. This cell line, generated by Dinah Sah and colleagues many years ago, is a valuable addition to the pain neurobiologist's toolkit.

I asked the one high ranking policeman I saw on 5th Ave why there were so few police. He said “We did not expect anything like this. Don’t tell anyone but I’ve only got 44 officers out here — and it’s a great crowd, great event, no incidents.”
I have never seen anything like this in NYC. 5th Ave covered from 42nd St well to the 20s. Nobody prepared for this volume. Volunteers are holding the traffic on all the side streets. No police in sight. #handsoff

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

Got a DM from Congress:
“I’m from Rep [X]’s office. Thanks for what you’re posting, it’s honestly been very useful for us.”

Our great pleasure. If we can inform people about what’s happening at NIH and what the political agendas are behind attacks on science, we are achieving our goals.

Despite touting their supposed commitment to strengthening U.S. shipbuilding, the Administration’s recent hiring freeze does the exact opposite.
