I post about politics, cities, transit, housing and occasionally the Winnipeg Jets. He/him.
The Bloor-Danforth subway has average speeds of ~32km/h. The Line 6 Finch West shuttle bus runs the route in 32 minutes according to Google Maps, for an average speed of ~19km/h. And the Finch West LRT takes 53 minutes end-to-end, which is less than 12 km/h or barely 1/3rd the speed of the subway.

It is disgraceful that no one from the TTC Exec, Board (@cllrjamaalmyers.bsky.social ) or Mayor (@mayoroliviachow.bsky.social) have said anything regarding the 3 major subway shutdowns during rush hour over the past week.

This is something I've been thinking for a long time and I'm glad Mike is saying it. Politicians should stop talking about housing goals in terms of number of units they will build, and start talking about what actually matters: how much it should cost, and what they'll do to make it cost that much.
Imagine a 2-couple family in the GTA, earning 100K pre-tax, with a 9 yo daughter and 5 yo old son. 2 questions:

- What would you consider appropriate housing for them?
- Given their income and family size, what's the most that home should cost?

Toronto's best hope is that they give the removal work to Metrolinx. It will take 12 years to plan and design, and the cost will grow to $200 million per km and might never be finished.
A sad day for cyclists in Toronto, Ottawa, and across Ontario. Third Reading of Doug Ford's anti bike lane Bill 212 passed 66 to 27. We must keep fighting including organizing to #VoteFordOut when the election comes! #shame #BikeTO #ottbike #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

It's important that we all clearly understand the strategy at play here. This is a game to them. They start with the most extreme position- remove all the bike lanes!- so when they eventually walk it back- just *some* of the bike lanes- it looks like a compromise. Don't fall for it. Not. One. Metre.

@jordanhr.bsky.social just listened to the Jackpot Generation episode of TBS. I had to do a rewind when I heard you say that $900k is *not* life-changing money? 🤯 Is it not?!?!

There’s no data being shared about Bloor bike lanes in Etobicoke. Barely existed & mostly we hear vibes taken at face value. Show us how biz is hurt directly by lanes. Put them thru the screws the way any bike lane supporter has been for…20+ years for even tiny improvements. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Balance on Rhetoric.

In summary, Ford's bike lane removals will, according to a new City Hall report:

- Cost $75 million in direct costs and sunk costs.
- Make traffic much, much worse for at least nine months during construction to remove lanes
- Have minimal long-term impact on car travel times.

The report also says travel times would get WORSE for drivers during the construction work necessary to remove the bike lanes. Long-term, staff project "likely minimal improvements in travel time" for drivers once lanes are removed.
