Something I don't quite understand about this is... what about the subways? Bloor-Danforth stop spacing is ~700m apart. There is no supplementary bus service along this route. The sky has not fallen. Why can't that be the case on St. Clair or Spadina with slightly fewer stops?

Exactly

Stop spacing is a factor too. But again, compare to Bloor Danforth- from Old Mill to Castle Frank, it's 10.6km and 16 stops, not far off from the spacing of the Finch LRT. And that journey goes 26 km/hr. I don't expect Finch to go that fast but it shouldn't be *less than HALF* as fast!

So, somewhere between 12km/hr (512 St Clair) and 26 km/hr (Line 2 BD) - preferably closer to the latter than the former - seems reasonable to expect.

But also, point taken re. apples to oranges. Looking at a comparable stretch of Line 2: Old Mill to Castle Frank (10.6 km, 17 stations, relatively close together), Google Maps says that takes 25 mins which works out to around 25-26km/hr.

Although mathematically, even the more optimistic 34 minutes end to end, only equates to about 18-19 km/hr. So, not sure where the 20-21 came from.

I'm just going off this FAQ document, which says 18 stops, 11km, and 20-21km/hr. Though I notice even within the document there is inconsistency- at one point it says 34 mins end to end, then elsewhere it says 38 mins. I'd take either over what we've got though.

The "subway-style" quality of LRTs was definitely oversold. That said, the St Clair streetcar averages around 12 km/hr while the Bloor subway is around 32 km/hr. We were told Finch West would run at 20-21km/hr, a reasonable middle ground. I don't need subway speeds, I just want what was promised!

Streetcars, yes. But LRT, no, because the problems with the Finch LRT should just be fixed, immediately, without needing to wage a campaign over it.

I really have to ask... what are we doing here?@metrolinx.bsky.social promised average speeds of 20-21km/hr: www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-... (already significantly slower than TTC subways) and the line is barely doing half of that. @ttcalerts.bsky.social do you hate your riders? What gives???

Yeah. On my ride there was a lot of holding at stations and slow sections which makes me think they were trying to keep to a very padded schedule. I doubt they would've had run 10-15 mins faster than that on some trips, on opening day.

53 mins to Humber, 50 mins to Finch West for me.

This feels so backwards. The UP should only make three stops: Bloor, Mt Dennis, Woodbine. These are the stops with key connections to other rapid transit routes. The other stops on the corridor (King Liberty, St Clair, and Weston) should be GO stations with 15-minute service.

Wild that there is basically zero public communication from Metrolinx on the current status of this project.

this is looking south right?

The City should really be pushing Metrolinx to work with CPKC on a passenger service on the North Toronto sub. Start with Yonge St to the Junction, 5 or 6 stations. The density on Dupont could already support it, and it's only going to get more congested with all the development along that corridor.

This building and location are such an obvious slam dunk option for a Toronto cultural history museum. I don't understand why we are still not sure if we're doing that.

The province and feds have been working closely on this. Feds have stated they're aligned on the response.
