My madness campaigns were dependent on the following technologies: (1) three-way phone lines with a muting feature (2) tape recorders (3) a school bus with a tape player you could get the cool bus driver to pop your prank call phone tape in.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

I mean, those would be my preferences too.
It says a lot about our country that the FBI had no interest in interviewing Brett Kavanaugh but wants to talk to Mark Kelly.

If people want to understand why American politics went bananas in 2012, the reason is that the moderate black President took a modest but consequential step toward decoupling healthcare from employment and every billionaire immediately poured their entire portfolio into race-hate media

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

"We will pay any price, bear any burden, support any friend, oppose any foe..." He meant it when he said that.
JFK bloated troops in Vietnam from 900 to 16,000, created the School of the Dictators, had Ngo Dinh Diem whacked, invaded Cuba and sponsored at least a few assassination attempts on Castro, and promoted the 'our dictator good' approach. Actual JFK was not Jed Bartlet.

The impressive revelations in this hippo thread finally make it plausible to me that the Behemoth from the Book of Job could be one
And AS LONG AS THERE'S 8" THICK STEEL BEAMS BETWEEN ME AND THEM, they're really cute.

It was genuinely like something out of Jurassic Park. Every time they *brushed* against these massive steel grates, they rang out like bells, because there's just *so much force* behind any of their movements.

Entire villages were destroyed & survivors were evacuated by air.

One of my never-pursued projects was devising a markup language (BSML) to express degrees of confidence in one's assertions, so that I could write in a hurry and then go back and fix the parts I was just making up.
if I may add: I put all my bullshit in brackets. whenever I'm stumped, or need to fact-check something, or the syntax is fucked, or I need to rewrite a passage. anything funky goes in brackets so when I'm ready to revise, I can easily search the doc for them and find all the bullshit.
