@deepwatermike.bsky.social
Technical trainer and occasional historian. Erstwhile medievalist. Now practicing the Wudang 108 form of Taijiquan and delivering sizzling takes. Walking the elements and holding the gates in North Carolina.
Where's my shocked face...I know I left it around here.

*puts finger to ear*

Reports indicate that I am wearing it. Dammit.
The Senate has rejected a plan from Sen. Tammy Baldwin D-WI to extend the expiring Obamacare health insurance subsidies for 1 year. Party line vote.

Good morning to everyone except these craven assholes. Even if they did it to protect other Senators more vulnerable, in which case we have cowardice on top of cowardice. May they not know a moment's peace.

I know I’ll get some help here:

a tree hit our house last night in a terrible storm & destroyed our deck, an integral part of the structure. we couldn’t do much last night but for insurance agents out there: what should we be doing this AM to give us the best chance for help?

The one thing Republican moderates and Democratic moderates have in common is that they reliably fall in line...with Republican leadership.

You suck. The Old Domimion deserves a Senator who won't cave. You might as well benone of MY senators (that's Tillis amd Budd, for the record) at this moment.

I am SO FUCKING SICK of Dem leaders bailing Republicans out of their messes. This is an own goal, and if you can't grasp that (I'm looking at you @schumer.senate.gov), move your superannuated ass aside and let someone else do the job.

Abbot: Did you draw in the margins of this bible?

Me: Yeah, it's called illumination. Very fancy.

Abbot: *opens book* Is this a tree growing dicks instead of fruit?

Me: lol yeah

There is not, to my knowledge, either a Constitutional provision or House rule that requires new representatives to be sworn in by the Speaker. Grijalva should have a judge administer the oath, show up for work, and sue Speaker Johnson if he tries to stop her.

I just realized I took this a few days after Hurricane Katrina passed through. It was really weird. On Largo we got a little wind and rain. Key West was kind of a mess, but pretty much open the day after. Then it went into the Gulf and sat, growing...

I increasingly feel like Chuck would rather lose in his comfort zone than try to learn from what happened Tuesday.

This is why we need a leadership turnover. Chuck can afford to lose. He's not going to live in the world he's making.
I swear to god Chuck Schumer better not ruin the bolt of energy that Tuesday shot through Democrats by folding on the shutdown

Not to sound like an old codger, but the "10 foot rule" (asking customers if they need help, not smiling) used to be the norm, even in big-box retailers.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

Frank Langella as Nixon. What ruled about it was that he was so convincing, seeing actual Nixon again was jarring.
