i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me that if a judge has a lawsuit settlement offer before them that is laundering a bribe to a public official, that judge should reject the settlement. Am I crazy? Just ignorant??
