Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

Since I administered the WH emoluments rules, let me explain why this is forbidden

Trump expressed interest in it before it was offered

He is going to use & benefit from it a while in office

And he's going to keep using it after he leaves!

Functionally, it's a gift to him & so it's illegal
Overseeing the presidential gift rules was among my duties as White House Ethics Czar -- so I know how it's supposed to work

The gift of this plane to Trump is illegal & unconstitutional

The AG & the WH Counsel oughtta be ashamed of themselves for allowing it

True story: When I was a contractor at a NASA facility I kept M&Ms on my desk. A civil servant I worked with ate a few one day. The next day I came in to find a pound bag on my desk. He wanted to "reimburse" me because he didn't want the few he ate to be seen as a gift. Anyway

The gift is bad enough on its own, but can we talk about how insane it is to use a foreign-gifted jet as *Air Force One*

Air Force One has a lot of capability that a luxury jet simply doesn’t, and that’s before we even consider the obvious spying/bugging/security concerns.

Could you imagine the response if a democratic president said they didn’t know if they had to uphold the Constitution?

How fast would the articles of impeachment be drawn ?

20 minutes at the most

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative.

A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

Some people are reading this as “Oh we should give up.” Obviously no, progressives just shouldn’t expect that playing by their rules will work for us…we need to play our own game, and I’m already seeing it happen.

This is blood-boiling. Charles Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam after being wounded three times leading the defense of a position.

Google his name and the entry below comes up. When you click, you'll see the page has been deleted and the URL changed to include "DEI medal."

"dei medal" you might as well just put "n*gger medal" because that's what they mean to say

A blast to join @mmasnick.bsky.social to co-host Ctrl-Alt-Speech this week. A little more global and free flowing than is the norm, but if this isn’t a moment to think big picture impacts and blast radius, I don’t know what is.

The reason "AI" is snake oil, is that snake oil started out as an effective liniment made from water snakes, chock full of omega-3s, and then a bunch of American grifters got ahold of the idea and started pitching something that was more of a rattlesnake infusion and totally ineffective.

These people have built a moral order on persecuting other people. It works like this: we are the good guys and those people over there are the bad guys. They are the reason that there are problems in society. It is good to hurt those people.

This is, of course, how fascism works.

"Democrats need a message as straightforward as it is loud. Unemployment up? Trump’s fault. House prices too high? Trump’s fault. Groceries too expensive? Trump’s fault. The man who wants credit for everything must be blamed for everything."

James is right, Dems need to be ready to say this stuff:
Five months ago, Trump was using groceries as props. Now he barely talks about inflation, and he just further walked back his pledge to reduce prices. His reasons are deeply revealing.
