My radicalized perspective is that if the US can force ByteDance to divest/shutter TikTok in the US, the EU can do the same for Azure/AWS cloud data centers under the same logic
fundamentally i even get why the european union doesn't want giant american multinationals running their entire internet, especially now

Do our European leaders ever stop to think about the deep humiliation of constantly allowing the US to dictate our policies here in Europe?

Or they are incapable of shame?
Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

If true, this is absolutely not someone suited to lead digital sovereignty in the EU, especially at this critical moment.
"Other voices point at recent reporting by Politico, that Virkkunen's message to US businesses in direct meetings was that the EU will review its rules and become more business-friendly."

As always, the political right - in some ways, especially the center-right - hate people, democracy, freedoms.
My take on why 🇪🇺President von der Leyen and her centre-right EPP group are playing a dangerous game by planning to ally with the far right next week to pass the deregulation demanded by Trump: davekeating.substack.com/p/von-der-le...

This isn't a warrant canary, this is a pre-planned criminal conspiracy to violate court orders. The lawyers who approved these contracts should be disbarred and prosecuted for violating the court orders personally.
turns out warrant canaries go both ways

IMO Nvidia is the Levi Strauss & Co. of AI.

Don't buy gold miners, buy the people selling jeans and shovels.
Nvidia stock hit an all-time high of $201.03. HSBC upgraded to "Buy" with the highest price target on the street at $320, citing growing demand for AI chips.

So, is it safe to invest everything (including retirement savings) in a few American companies?

Great thread. Add to it that all three of the biggest clouds are run by American companies, which typically comes with its own set of values decisions and priorities.

IMO, the EU really needs to make this its tech competitiveness and sovereignty #1 priority (not AI), almost as important as defense.
📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

IMHO everyone on the political right is a crybaby bitch if you scrape away the pretense. (Yes everyone.) The only questions are how much pretense and how much they are a crybaby bitch. The fact that they are scraping their own pretense away lets us get right to the well-deserved ridicule
Something I can't get over with the Sarah Pochin comments is that it's not just racist, it's also pathetic? Like oh wittle Sarah doesn't like the wittle adverts is it? Get a grip, you're a grown woman and member of parliament, stop being a snowflake and find a real problem to deal with

I recently used generative AI for the first time to generate a document; it was excellent at making something that sounded like what a confidently ignorant person would write on the topic.
I have also found that LLMs are useful for reorganizing my own content and providing advice about structure. Like an editor basically. But LLMs and other GenAI are extremely bad at other things, like serving as search engines and generating creative content. Seems important to distinguish.

I'm consistently struck by the fact that I have a lot more affection and respect for France than the people who want to make it hard for me to become a citizen.
The Netherlands has issues but is an extraordinarily successful society - rich, safe, healthy and beautiful, with outstanding public services.
Unfortunately a lot of people take this for granted, and believe politicians who claim to be patriots while claiming everything is terrible
I'm going to blame part of this on the fact that no-one wants to stand up and admit that this is is a beautiful, wonderful, successful country, which has a manageable number of problems, most of which are related to the fact that too many people want to live in our lively, historic vibrant cities.
