One example of the problem with expecting nonprofit organizations to step into the support role that can be filled by governments.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Where are we when we have to caveat optimism and inspiration? Love each other. Please.
It’s ok to be inspired—even, or especially, when shit’s this crazy out there. Let me be clear: I’m not obsessed with optimism, nor do I think it always works out.

But we should be wary of those who tell us to rid ourselves of hope.

The opposite of hope for the enslaved is enslavement, after all.

Y'all. I know that there's a lot going on, but this is QUITE suspicious timing. How much a discount did the negative coverage give Kimberly-Clark? www.marketplace.org/story/2025/1...
Why is Kimberly-Clark hoping to acquire the embattled maker of Tylenol?
The recent publicity could allow the company to get a good deal on Kenvue, which makes Tylenol, Band-Aids, and other household products.

Are you a digital accessibility advocate? If you’re able, consider donating to Knowbility to support free and low cost accessibility training, paid research opportunities for people with disabilities (via AccessWorks), etc.
We've officially launched our annual fundraiser, creating momentum for our community to support vital programs like AIR, AccessU, AccessWorks, and BADA. As a nonprofit, we truly can't do any of this without your help. Please consider donating and sharing this post! knowbility.org/donate

This made for a crazy week at the nonprofit I support. The nonprofit w/o any resources to spare.

I have questions for the Product team at @gofundme.com - starting with: Was there any market or user research? Or was the decision to build this “feature” purely internal?
After a week of uproar over fundraising pages created for nonprofits by GoFundMe, the company has apologized for “missing the mark,” and is removing the pages for any nonprofits that haven’t already agreed to them.

The company has made the donation pages it created for organizations opt-in and will remove all unclaimed pages. It also issued an apology.

Ohhhh! I'm working on an academic project for the first time in decades and this explains so much. Years in industry have me used to hammering out a google doc together versus the "just tell me my part and I'll deliver it" approach...
Was reading about how we teach "group work" in the form of "do your part and bring it all together", and how that continues as a norm in academic research collaborations (for better or (mostly) for worse).

I intentionally avoid assigning group work in my own courses...
