It’s past time to look at the ownership of Postmedia. The irony is that if we ever had a Chinese-owned or Indian-owned media business with the reach of Postmedia, they themselves would SCREAM about it all day every day.

If America is to survive, the cycle of a Republican administrations doing crimes and then being excused so the “nation can heal” that has gone on since Nixon, has to end in 2029. This can’t be like Watergate, Iran-Contra, War on Terror, or J6.

A reminder that Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra’s parents emigrated here during a period when Italians were considered to be a genetically inferior and criminal-minded underclass that Stephen Miller’s racist predecessors said should be excluded from America

The Abundance movement often points to environmental groups as the obstacles to building. But who actually files the lawsuits blocking projects? It’s not environmental groups. It’s been lawyered-up HOAs protecting property values all along. Regulation by litigation is the problem.

Apparently someone at Vanity Fair was like, “Hey remember those really gross closeup shots in Ren and Stimpy?”

Okay, I acknowledge this is a very boomer take, but I stumbled on a clip from 1984’s The Natural, and honestly when was the last time films looked that good? Like I know we can do lots of cool shit with VFX now and everything, but damn, we’ve lost something.

Toronto has not figured out how to be a major city. We were supposed be a second-rate declining rust belt town until Rene Lévesque got elected.
It’s insane that within just a few weeks, two of Canada’s major cities opened polar opposite transit systems.

REM - An extension to a high frequency, fast, fully automated metro system

Finch West - A many years late, over budget, disastrously slow light rail line

Remaining politically unbiased requires staying neutral on matters like evidence, relevant past behavior, clear patterns, obvious lies, and observable truth, which is worth remembering whenever somebody starts complaining about political bias.

This isn’t even satire in Toronto, I’m sure the right wing nepobabies on city council literally say this.

THE MAN IN THE RIVER

Once there was a wise man, who travelled to strange lands, and as he travelled, he came to the bank of a winding river. Edging the bank were houses, set at distances from one another. The wise man walked upstream, watching the slow current carry leaves and twigs past him.

On June 21, 1970, a seven-man court-martial in Da Nang sentenced Michael Schwartz to imprisonment for life.

Private Schwartz, from Weirton, West Virginia, was 21 and married, with a three-year-old son.

Schwartz was convicted of killing 12 civilians. He was acting under orders. ...

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

A couple disparate things that I’d like to see a journalist thread together:
- we know AI hallucinates. Like really badly, making up entire articles and research papers
- AI bosses are closely aligned with the Trump administration. They are likely using AI tools.
