Patrick writes about my hometown!

In my family, my memere's sister, matante Julliette was the key to the migration of my Dad and six of his siblings from the Eastern Townships.
🚨 New on the blog! 🚨

The story of "matante" Mélanise and her kin (or a story of chain migration from southern Quebec)

"In the short term, affective bonds trumped the trajectory of an entire culture."

Keeping Kinfolk in Franco-American Holyoke
Migrants to the Holyoke area long maintained ties to Quebec through kinship and spurred further migration.

I just saw the movie "Eephus," which takes place on the last day of the season of an amateur baseball league. It is excellent. I played a few years in an over-55 league and the movie totally nails the vibe.

Yesterday, I toured the Preserve at Olmstead Green in Mattapan. 80 beautiful new homes - 79% income restricted. @mayorwu.boston.gov's historic commitment to affordable housing made this development possible.

Cool charts and data from CA. I'm a data point of one in New England, but last year, I looked at the Mustang, ID.4 and Ioniq 5 and bought the Hyundai. Would not even consider a Tesla b/c of Musk.

If Ford or Toyota built a midsize plug-in hybrid truck, I might trade my V8 F150 for it.
The good news is surging sales from Hyundai and less rapid unit sales growth from Toyota/Subaru, BMW, Vinfast, Rivian, Lucid and Nissan kept the market positive.

This is a short, extremely well-written, and informative explainer on affordable housing.

What Is ‘Affordable Housing’?
For such a commonly used term, “affordable housing” means a lot of different things to different people and in different contexts.

The only thing that could make this clip better would be to extend the offer to all the New England states and a mention of the 900,000+ French-Canadian emigrants who came here with little more than a willingness and ability to work hard.

Great thread for anyone who loves Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I wrote my MA thesis on this film. It is one of the best endings in all of cinema, as it perfectly reinforces the philosophical position of the movie that shows modernity will always crash in to ruin any genuine effort to understand the past
Monty Python & the Holy Grail is an absolute classic film. However, it has one of the shittest endings in film history. "Modern police arrive, arrest everyone, then 10 mins of lift music before the lights come up" is a literal cop-out.

Thoughts after 1 yr of EV ownership.
1. We love our Ionic 5, tons of acceleration.
2. If we didn't have rooftop solar, we wouldn't have an EV. At our elec. rate >$.30/kw, the $/mi is lower with gas.
3. If you pay less than $.20/kw, EV should be cheaper.
