To put things just slightly differently: Congratulations, Mr. Schumer, you just made Democrats part of the bums voters are going to want to throw out in 2026, if not sooner.
Great job, @schumer.senate.gov. You've changed the story from "GOP hurting millions of Americans to please unpopular, failing, delusional despot who's destroying his party" to "Dems are too weak and divided in the face of Trump's strength to take a stand and protect Americans"

I was thinking along the same lines. A deal to reopen in exchange for FSAs just isn't enough. There would have to be something else to sweeten the deal. What is that something else?
There’s almost never a deal with Dems where when the details come out it looks worse than the initial reporting. It’s almost always the opposite.

The big wins should lead Dems and certain writers to revisit whether they overinterpreted 2024. MAGA coalition is more fragile than it seemed. Their interpretation is now actively counterproductive.

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.
