The TERMINUS hardbacks have arrived and the fancy UV spot gloss has come out exactly as hoped – glossy tiles and matte grout! 🥳

It almost feels like it's embossed.

Quantic Foundry does legit trustworthy analysis of gamer behaviour, and these survey results are shockingly negative toward genAI, to the point where I’m more hopeful that data driven mobile and AAA backpedals on their uses.

I think this rubric is a starting point sure but it misses the 2 key and honestly biggest negatives of GenAI/LLM

1) Is the project you're working worth the long lasting and devastating environmental effects of running the server?
2) Is the data you're model running only exist due to stolen work?

I found this metric for evaluating the use of generative AI (and more broadly machine learning) technology in games very useful, as it's a topic on my mind a lot right now. I actually did not have "Enhancement" as one of my criteria but I think he's changed my mind here.
I have condensed everything from this piece into the questions below, and now I ask you - the reader- to consider this in the context of any of the AI-laden games mentioned in this issue: Livelihoods: Does the use of (machine learning/generative) AI impact the livelihoods of workers involved in the project? Replacement: Do you feel the use of AI in the project is a means to replace professional talent as a whole? Enhancement: Does the use of AI fail to enhance the quality of the final product? Substitution: Do you think the features in this game can be achieved at similar or acceptable levels of quality without generative AI?

It’s baby octopus season 🐙🦑

Saw this little guy last night with the Salish Sea School in Anacortes, WA as part of their free community dock walk I volunteer as an interpreter for.

We can tell it is a giant pacific octopus from the single line of chromatophores on each arm.
