Scientists long assumed that inactive vents, without the mineral-rich plumes that make active vents so mesmerizing, didn’t host unique lifeforms.

“It turns out that we just weren’t looking very closely,” says marine biologist Jason Sylvan.

Currently reading: Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky, and really enjoying a good space adventure.

And I've noticed a few non-binary folks mentioned, just there with no fanfare, which makes me happy.

This thread is interesting about the Mars Spirit and Opportunity rovers. I had no idea that the video created received an Emmy nomination!

It's an amazing video today still.

It's the Mars Exploration Rover video (aka Spirit and Opportunity). Dan Maas created this video by himself (in consultation with the PI Steve Squyres) while an undergraduate (at 16yo!), using a bunch of tech that he built himself, including significant advances to 3D animation. He won an Emmy.

Mask up, get vaxxed.
Warnings rise for U.S. as a severe flu strain causes outbreaks. A flu strain that emerged over the summer is causing unprecedented outbreaks in Japan, as well as in Canada and the U.K. The CDC hasn't provided insights on flu in the U.S. in nearly 2 months.

It's that time of year again, at least for Ontario peeps! Farm Boy organic eggnog in my coffee is better than anything from $tarbucks, has less sugar, and a 1L bottle is $6 + glass bottle deposit, so same price or cheaper than a commercial eggnog latte. Less waste too.
