Canada has the opportunity to lead the move to the AI economy. As thousands of jobs will be wiped out we need a framework of Universal Basic Income so the productivity gains will be shared with all Canadians. Support Senate Bill S-206 as it goes through 2nd reading.

In the long arc, anything we ever do will eventually be just a story. New stories will settle on top of them, like sedimentary layers. I think we like to imagine future travellers will dig them up, put them in places of honour.

I’m encouraged by these town halls but I also remember very clearly how this happened in 2017 as well. Instead of responding to the complaints, they stopped doing them.

Myth: UBI will induce laziness.

Fact: Survival-driven work leads to burnout, whereas self-motivated work generates its own momentum.

UBI allows individuals to pursue work that aligns with their values, potentially reducing 'laziness' and boosting overall well-being.

UBI moves beyond economic labels. its not about capitalism, communism, socialism, liberalism, or any specific economic system. Instead, it acknowledges the inherent worth and dignity of every human being and provides the resources to enable one to live out their full potential.

The concentration of wealth among a select few hinders economic growth. An ideal economy would ensure that wealth is with those who contribute directly to its functioning, like workers, educators, and entrepreneurs. This is why we need UBI.

We currently have the right not to be subject to a legal or significant decision based solely on automated processing.

The Data Bill removes this right, requiring individuals to scrutinise and assert their rights against decisions made by AI.

...not just about figuring out a 'new plan' but rather a 'living, live mechanism' capable of capturing ongoing, real time public collective intelligence (resulting in output towards a collective wisdom of some sort)
In this talk I will argue:

*Paris Agreement always relied on overshoot
*carbon removal tech was invented by economists
*1.5 is gone & much more warming coming
*no credible routes to reduce global temps
*green transition risks complete derailment
*time has run out, we need a new plan

All welcome!
