Hello all, I've published a fictional short story 'Malcolm X at Sidi Gaber' for Rowayat Literary Journal. The story explores Malcolm X’s visit to Egypt in 1964 but reimagines him meeting novelist Naguib Mahfouz in Alexandria. rowayat.org/malcolm-x-at...

Cool, so the message from UMN to students is that they can use AI to summarize, answer questions, edit writing, and write code. This really doesn’t jibe with the university giving professors autonomy over how we want AI used (or not used) in our courses.

I have a piece (in French) on Hannah Arendt in the Arab world that has just been published in a special edition of the French philosophy magazine, Philosophie. Unfortunately, it is paywalled, but I'll later publish the English version elsewhere or on my site.

Trying to keep track of the number of athletes murdered in Gaza but it’s hard since there are more every single fucking day.

The Al Saoud Library is a gem of Casablanca. Well-resourced and elegantly situated, it overlooks the ocean, a feature that should be mandatory for all coastal cities. It brings knowledge and nature into quiet harmony.

Passport officer at Muscat airport: "Welcome to Oman, it seems it's your first visit to Oman, hopefully it won't be your last," he said smiling. You see how easily hospitality can be done? This trait is becoming rare at many airports that greet you with frowns & interrogations.

All I understood from this is that the Trump administration will be coming soon to the University of Buffalo with knives and pitchforks
GOOD NEWS! Researchers at the University of Buffalo have developed a nanoparticle-based vaccine candidate for H5N1 avian influenza (clade 2.3.4.4b) that achieved 100% PROTECTION in preclinical trials. The vaccine is under development for potential use in BOTH veterinary AND human medicine. 🧪🧵⬇️

ICE officers are now reportedly required to meet arrest quotas each day, from a few hundred to between 1,200 and 1,500 nationwide. Jonathan Blitzer reports on the mystery of the agency’s unidentifiable arrests.

In early March, the agency announced that it had arrested forty-eight people in New Mexico—a month later, their identities and whereabouts remain unknown.

Brace yourself for public figures to be even smaller and more cowardly than you thought possible, and some neighbors and family, too. (Even if you thought they couldn't disappoint you any more than they have.) But we can't give ground. This is deliberate evil. They're testing how far they can go.
Marco Rubio just announced 10 more people were sent to be imprisoned in CECOT. They were flown there from Gitmo to be imprisoned potentially for life based not on any crime for which they were convicted, but on unproven allegations of gang membership with no due process.

This is not lawful.

One sign that we are living under an authoritarian regime is that a lot of people are acting like they are living under an authoritarian regime.
The fear among academics and lawyers now talking on the record on just about any topic that involves the federal government or the White House is really extraordinary and worrisome, and getting worse, it seems to me, every week. Dissent by an establishment figures becoming verboten in the US
