On Dec 5, the University of Arkansas abruptly terminated Prof Shirin Saeidi from her director role at the Center for Middle East Studies. The decision followed a political pressure campaign by outside groups targeting Saeidi with a vicious public defamation campaign.

This puts a target on instructors' backs. It clears a path for abuse and endangers student safety.

So at SJSU, one professor assaulted a student and faced a temporary suspension, and Dr. Sang Hea Kil attends campus protests and gets fired?

There is no justification for this. SJSU is a unionized public university. These are battles we really can't concede.

Great piece on the rhetoric of "fiduciary responsibility" as now deployed by @historians.org.

Everything has a history, including this use of "fiduciary responsibility" by scholarly orgs to expressly sever us from the goods of our own commons. #AHA26
