🧵 The summer of 2025 has been AI's "cruel summer"—wrongful deaths, dangerous therapy chatbots, medical misinformation, facial recognition failures. These aren't isolated glitches but predictable harms from systems deployed without adequate oversight. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
An ELSI for AI: Learning from genetics to govern algorithms
In the United States, the summer of 2025 will be remembered as artificial intelligence’s (AI’s) cruel summer—a season when the unheeded risks and dangers of AI became undeniably clear. Recent months h...

Q: “Are you affirming you think Trump is a fascist?”

TRUMP: “That’s ok, you can just say yes.”

Three things:

1) No longer classifying swastikas, nooses, and the Confederate flag as hate symbols is quite bad, and in line with many other actions from this admin.

2) Congrats to the cancel culture moral panickers.

3) I don't think a good political response to this is to shrug at Nazi tattoos.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

The problem is the Google forgot that if they leaned into being a reliable source of information instead of pushing ads and AI over the information then ChatGPT wouldn’t be a threat. They could’ve been marketing the last year like: still not getting what you need from chat? Come back to the source
For 27 years, there's never really been a huge threat to Google's search money-printing machine. Social was a slight concern, and Google dabbled there, but it never really chipped away. But ChatGPT is *absolutely* chipping away at Google search.

Why be a openly gay politician and be conservative? This is the real difference between gay and queer. Gay is a sexuality, queer can be understood as an political ideology that challenges social hierarchies of gender, sexuality, and other identities and is focused on the liberation of oppressed ppl
I said what I said. Pete Buttigieg is UNREMARKABLE. His ideas are SAFE. His resume is TYPICAL of the political class.

We aren’t the audience for these anti-Trump talking points delivered by MTG and Massie, and our negative reactions and suspicions are justified.

It’s nonetheless important to understand the significance of this messaging in terms of its potential impact on the intended audience.
Rep. Thomas Massie: "I would remind my Republican colleagues who are deciding how to vote that Donald Trump can protect you in red districts right now by giving you an endorsement. But in 2030, he's not gonna be the president and you will have voted to protect pedophiles."

MTG has been acting lately like she’s beginning to emerge from Trumpist cult brainwashing—which is good in that, if she can, maybe others can as well—but her politics remain odious. This might be what the off-ramp for other cult members looks like. We’ll see.
BASH: We have seen these attacks from the president at other people. It's not new. And I haven't heard you speak out about it until it was directed at you.

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: I think that's fair criticism. And I would like to say, humbly, I'm sorry for taking part in the toxic politics.

feels relevant today
we have an elite impunity problem and a lot of the people and institutions that nominally oppose Trump will burn down their own before admitting that this helped produce him
I've said it many times before and Andrew Cuomo is making me say it again: we don't have a cancellation problem. We have never had a cancellation problem. To the contrary, we have a problem that "disgrace" is a very temporary embarrassment— an brief entr'acte more than an intermission.
