Nobody should be concerned about the orphan baby Paca; he is my son now. He is much larger than I am but as a family we're making it work. #2025MMM

It’s baby octopus season 🐙🦑

Saw this little guy last night with the Salish Sea School in Anacortes, WA as part of their free community dock walk I volunteer as an interpreter for.

We can tell it is a giant pacific octopus from the single line of chromatophores on each arm.

It also speaks to a mental calculus- I have heard people say “X’s work is not good enough to put up with X’s behavior” and that makes me think…so there ARE people whose work is good enough for you to put up with their behavior? What’s unacceptable to you is predicated on how talented the person is??
Here's a thing that I despise: When someone is outed as an abuser, TERF, terrible human, and ppl start going "I never liked them anyway" "I never found them funny" "They never wrote good things to begin with" and seriously shut the hell up. All of that is just to position you are superior and (cont)

8. Evil city / pure countryside is an example of what Jeremy Lent calls a “root metaphor”: an idea so deeply implanted in our minds that we don’t even recognise it as an idea.

I've gone back and forth on whether to post about this -- part of me that is so, so tired of flaying open the details of our grief just to beg the world to care.

They killed my friend. They fucking killed him.

His wife is struggling immensely to feed their children. Anything you can donate helps.

Honestly all former and present members of the US military should probably ask themselves this more often. (PS. Sorry, not American, don't need to 'respect the troops')
What kills me about Platner Nazi tattoo thing is that it's literally the same skull from the "are we the baddies?" sketch, which aired a year before he got that tattoo.

Cooloola monsters are weird, chunky insects endemic to South East Queensland, Australia. They're probably related to king crickets (Anostostomatidae), but not much is known about their evolution. The wingless females live permanently underground. #EverydayEnsifera

The arc of the moral universe is a warped 2x4; sometimes you have to put your entire weight on it, maybe jump up and down a few times, to get it to bend towards justice

The idea that kids and teens are to blame for acts of fascism and censorship because the state or corporations say they’re doing it in the name of “child-friendliness” is so ass-backwards. You’re targeting the people with the least social power in this situation.

There is no liberal or progressive way to criticize someone for dodging the draft, are you fucking serious
If your belief is “everyone should have obediently gone to fight in the Vietnam war”, that doesn’t just make you a conservative, that makes you a conservative by the standard of 50 years ago

We need to stop letting anti-vaxxers get away with positioning themselves in opposition to "the mainstream". My dudes, you are the fucking mainstream. Some of the most powerful people on earth believe and promote your lethal bullshit, that is in fact why it's so goddamn dangerous

I swear every post about invasive cats in former European colonies is something like "how dare people scapegoat these poor innocent animals! humans are the REAL virus!", but the last one I saw was posted by a white lady with a racial slur in her username, which is a little on the nose I think

Tapping the sign again
When something bad happens in a major US city you get a wave of comments about how big cities are not Representative of Real America (tm) and oh my god y'all it's propaganda, it's 100% rightwing propaganda to "other" the people in diverse population centers and try and make you not care about them

It's interesting that people who would never make fun of someone for not understanding a joke/sarcasm in real life will happily make fun of people who do this on the Internet, where, in the absence of vocal and facial cues, it's objectively harder to tell when people are joking/being sarcastic

Okay. You all ready for a feel-good thread?

Because one literally fell out of the sky for us last week and it's only fair we share this heartwarming tale with you.

Been away for a week and not quite back yet, but when I get a chance, I am excited to share how our family vacation turned into a little wildlife rescue adventure with a wild start and a happy ending.

More soon. For now, here's a sneak peek...

Absolutely nobody asked, truly not a soul, but I'd like to elaborate *why* I like gory horror.

1) Visceral response. If I get that stomach-turning sensation out of the visual horror on display, that's just as important to me as the tension during a suspense scene or the flinch at a jumpscare. (1/9)
