I talked to NIH officials, current and former, about what's been happening inside the agency since the Trump administration shut down their grantmaking pipeline in January. Their stories showed just how willing our new leaders are to break the law: www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...
Inside the Collapse at NIH
Administration officials pressured NIH to avoid clear advice from the agency’s own lawyers to restart grant funding now.

I know it all seems maddeningly slow to those of us in the biz, but a new report shows that *every one of America's 50 states* (and Puerto Rico!) took action on grid modernization in 2024. It's starting to happen.

Imagine saying this about an agency that has helped millions of people around the world avoid malaria, obtain clean water, and gain access to food & health care. Especially when you’re the world’s richest man & your net worth is something like 20 times this agency’s annual budget. What a foul soul.

Scientists as political advocates
Science, both teaching and doing, is under attack. The recent US presidential election of a person and platform with anti-science bias exemplifies this. The study of climate processes and patterns and...

I spent days digging into the public statements of every single Trump Cabinet pick to see what they've said about climate change and it was a horrible process but I did it because Journalism Is Important and climate change is actually real so please click it I beg you heated.world/p/trumps-ent...
Trump's entire Cabinet misrepresents climate change
I analyzed the public statements of each nominee. It was awful. (Though Matt Gaetz was surprising?)

2024 may be hotter than 1.5C over pre-industrial temperatures, but that doesn't mean we will have passed the 1.5C target of the Paris Agreement in 2024

this is good information👇
Passing through 1.5°C will be marked by several milestones
- first year above 1.5°C in one or more datasets
- exceedance of 1.5°C with instantaneous indicators
- confirmation that 1.5°C was exceeded in the 20-year average (as per IPCC)

The first one is happening now

Approaching 1.5 °C: how will we know we’ve reached this crucial warming mark?
Assessing global mean temperature rise using the average warming over the previous one or two decades will delay formal recognition of when Earth breaches the Paris agreement’s 1.5 °C guard rail. Here...

This is why I said we needed to hold off on the day-after hot takes about What The Election Means.

We still don’t have all the numbers but it’s clear any talk of a “mandate” was wildly overblown.

He won, yes. But only narrowly.
Donald Trump is now (1) below 50% popular vote and (2) has a margin of popular vote victory roughly HALF of Hillary's victory in 2016. They believe the left has to lay down and shut up because of this "landslide" victory.

The autocrats want you to tune out. They want to overwhelm you. They want you to give up.

Don’t give them want they want.

Stay in this fight. Remain vigilant. And let’s keep building.
