So the Republican Party has historically blocked:

-Paid sick leave
-Paid family & medical leave
-Universal childcare
-Universal pre-K
-Expanded Child Tax Credit
-Programs to support reproductive health

And they're wondering why more people aren't having children?

This past week, the University of Kentucky canceled programs recognizing first-generation, Black, and LGBTQ+ graduates.

This decision was wrong. It wasn’t Christlike. And it doesn’t reflect Lexington’s values.

That’s why community partners have stepped up to fill the void.

People spend a lot of time wondering why the left is worse at using independent media to control the national narrative.

A useful exercise is to ask why the left is also worse at selling snake oil and pyramid schemes, because I think the reasons are basically exactly the same.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

The stock market is not the economy. The stock market is not the economy. The stock market is not the economy.

Nonetheless, holy shit.

What’s remarkable is that there’s hardly any real news driving this. It’s just investors belatedly realizing that Trump is who he is, and always was.

The Lexington KY city Council was going to get rid of their equity inclusion and diversity position, but because of public backlash at the city council meeting, the position will stay open, and the current officer “will be transferred to another position in a different department to do similar work”
Lexington preserves DEI officer despite national, state efforts to ban similar positions
As national and state governments target diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, Lexington city council voted to keep a position that champions those values.

Huntington Beach is a purple county. The MAGA people are just loud and annoying, and that’s a skill that we on the left need to cultivate tbh. Stop yelling at each other and go yell at the government. Feels great, man
Just spoke to Erin Spivey, former Huntington Beach librarian and plaintiff in the ALCU library lawsuit against the city.

She estimated 75% of HBPL librarians have left since City Council began enacting policies restricting access to children's books, including director, manager, 3 dept. heads.

Watching from the gallery as the KY Senate passed a heinous anti-trans law, it was unimaginable that I would ever be welcomed onto the Senate floor as an elected official.

Less than two years later, it happened.

Keep showing up.

Keep doing the work.

Especially when it feels impossible.

when i visited the front in 2015 i met a Ukrainian sniper in his late 50s or so who had fought in Afghanistan. hated it. never ever wanted to go to war again. but he has two sons so he picked up his rifle again so they wouldn't have to.

I'm sure they've joined by now. Hope they're alive.

People gotta get it through their thick skulls: Elon Musk is not actually good at business. Tesla would have died many times over by now, if not for outright fraud. The tactics he is using on government now have destroyed Twitter as an experience and business. His other companies aren't profitable.
