There is no "become." People need to stop fucking acting like this is something new. We're the country of slavery, genocide, and systemic oppression so vile that we literally inspired the Nazis. None of this is new, it's what we've always been. Accept it so you can fight it.
Every American should be ashamed of who we are and what we have become as a nation today. We have a long history of military misadventures and even crimes but the attacks we have been conducting on Venezuela are among the most wanton, egregious and least defensible acts we’ve ever conducted.

Agreed. We desperately need to rescue political atheism not only from the reactionary atheists but from a left which views atheism as politically untouchable. Atheism and anti-clericalism are going to be necessary in a world of rising fascist theocracy.
You'll notice similar cultural relativist arguments were deployed to antifeminist ends but I'm kind of tired of pretending that acting like atheism is Western and cringe and conservative by default had no effect on the cultural normalisation of refusing to criticise religious fundamentalism.

I've often found myself frustrated by anti-atheist arguments because it feels like every time someone says 'actually christianity is bad' there's this thing where through twitter alchemy everyone starts discoursing about how reddit atheism is wrong and how we need to protect marginalized religions.
