Regarding the flooding: GOP doesn’t want to fund the programs that predict these things, but they still want to blame the federal government for not predicting this. DOGE has consequences

Woa. Water was the leading cause of deaths from #Helene, but this was eye catching.

@NHC_Atlantic: Helene’s winds are responsible for 65 of the direct deaths the most direct wind deaths from any tropical cyclone in the continental United States going back to at least 1963
Here's the highest rainfall AND river crests for counties in NC during #Helene

We are working on a @Esri story map to interactively visualize some of this information. More on that soon!

I'm at reporter at the Atlantic looking to speak to any NWS meteorologist, past or present, about what it takes to get forecasts to the public. DMs are open, and I'm zoeschlanger.99 on Signal.

The #1 reason I went into academia was for the students. Seeing them achieve their dream jobs at NOAA and NWS after years of hard work is the best part of the job. They CHOSE public service over a bigger paycheck, they are the best of humanity. Today is devastating. #noaa #nws

Planes won't fly.
Your weather app won't work or be accurate.
No hurricane, tsunami, or flood forecasts or warnings.
No water information for farmers.

Please enjoy my last ever post at Climate.gov/ENSO Blog. This afternoon I was fired by the Trump Administration 15 days before my 2yr probationary period ended on March 13.
I have worked at NOAA since 2010, and I'm so incredibly proud of the work I did. If anyone wants a quote, let me know.
Predicting El Niño and La Niña is tough, but new research analyzing 20+ years of forecasts finds dynamical models outperform statistical ones, especially for El Niño. La Niña onset? That's been much harder. Read more in our new ENSO blog post! www.climate.gov/news-feature...

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.
@aoc.bsky.social
Please explain what just happened. Is there no way to stop this w the reconciliation to be used by GOP to get around the filibuster? Are we sunk?

This man is a hero like so many other government employees. They do it because they want to serve the public and country, not for an extra zero on the paycheck. No private company could ever understand this.
Gregg is a former Marine and Forest Service ranger. He's saved the lives of hikers dangling off a cliff or going through cardiac arrest, and he's bravely fought forest fires to save small rural towns.

Elon fired him. Share his story.
