Figures revealed by @edinburghgreens.bsky.social show that more than two thirds of Edinburgh's walking, wheeling & cycling projects are delayed.

We're calling for urgent council action to get them back on track.

So many people out on today's ride to highlight crap road surfaces and a lack of bike lanes around Polwarth! Thank you to everyone who rode! A special shout-out to the kids who braved all the hills 😎

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via study that still underestimates climate cost.

This isn’t about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice.

#VisionZero - where there are no pedestrians deaths - should be possible for #Edinburgh

Loss of life is not an inevitable consequence of getting around - least of all for those on foot or bike

The most successful cities are the safest ones and often those who prioritise cars least.
How Helsinki and Oslo cut pedestrian deaths to zero
After years of committed action, neither city recorded a single pedestrian fatality in 2019

Switching just 1 trip a day from 🚗 to 🚴 or 🚶‍♂️ = almost 30% less transport CO2 for the ave UK urban resident. If 1 in 5 did this in 🇪🇺 it’d cut emissions from all 🚗 travel in 🇪🇺 by 8%. The potential impact of active travel on CO2 could be huge

Let’s keep the pressure on councillors. Their delays cost lives. Join the protest tomorrow
The proposed bus gate would have avoided another death - but it was delayed. Saving lives is not controversial, and people are fed up with culture wars!
Join us to take our call for safer streets to the council. Meet at 8.30am this Monday 18 November at the City Chambers.

A gentle reminder that if we miss the 1.5°C target (and we certainly will), the next target is 1.51°C and not 2°C. We need to keep fighting.

Every tonne of CO₂ emitted makes the job of future CO₂ removal harder, and every 0.01°C of temperature increase makes the world more chaotic and dangerous.
