It's all hands on deck. I am shamelessly asking, one more time, for reposts and signal boost as this bird glides toward a landing in a few hours. It's gonna be a beautiful book, and there aren't going to be very many available afterwards!

Generational public health sabotage
Every reputable expert I know considers mRNA vaccine technology to be one of the most revolutionary advances in medicine in our lifetimes. Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in 2023. Shutting it down now is pointless self-harm to humanity.
Release from HHS: HHS will wind down its development of the mRNA vaccine development activities under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

I think we should appreciate this brief window where the web and search engines are really shittified to the point of uselessness, but result from AI LLMs are currently blissfully free of advertisements and hence can actually be useful.

I'm sure that will change.

What kind of dumb people willfully undermine one of the brightest jewels of higher education, a magnet for talent and a driver of significant scientific and medical research?

Both @pftompkins.bsky.social Varietopia and Kenny G are performing tonight in Durham, NC, at different venues. I'm overjoyed to see PFT again, but will be left wondering about the PFT/Kenny G collab we could have had....

Good day to remember that a US President has no inherent power over tariffs whatsoever. It’s not like war powers or pardons. It’s entirely delegated by Congress to deal with emergencies. GOP Congress cld modify that law tonight and bring this to a screeching halt.

A hard but important read.
This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

It’s amazing to find out at this late date how much the rule of law depended on people simply deciding, on a voluntary, daily basis, not to break the law.

This is an easy-to-predict outcome, and sadly likely part of the design. Make people want to leave and seek stability elsewhere.
Civil servant source says DOGE has made agencies much less efficient: "Work has ground down to a stunning degree and management is spending a significant amount of time responding & preparing to respond to the chaos incited by the never ending barrage of EOs & accompanying memos"
Many make no sense🧵

It occurred to me that firing thousands of highly skilled, highly knowledgeable people, some of whom had access to highly secret information, and now have grievances and an urgent need for money, might be considered a security risk. Like, a big one.

Dazed and Confused was released in 1993, about a day in 1976. A comparable movie released in 2025 would be set in . . . 2008
