Official account for Portland City Councilor Jamie Dunphy, District 1
In the week since Mayor Wilson began enforcing the public camping ban, we are seeing MORE tents in East Portland. Those folks are just being swept into my district.

I told the mayor that this is what would happen and asked him to bring extra resources to East PDX to meet the displaced. He did not.

Increased ICE activity in North Portland today has led Portland Public Schools to lock exterior doors at César Chávez School and George Middle School, along with other protective measures. Other North Portland schools are monitoring the situation closely.

Happy Halloween from Portland City Hall! Special thanks to Council Operations staff for organizing a pumpkin-carving potluck during our lunch break yesterday.

Please drive carefully and look out for trick-or-treaters this evening!

I'm having constituent coffee hours today from 2:30-4:30 at Parkrose Coffee! Come on by!

I was gonna wear my Halloween costume but my wife says it's "a lot" but don't let that stop you! Happy Halloween!

Three of my neighbors in district 1 were killed in three separate car collisions last night. We need action now to reduce pedestrian and cyclist deaths.

YOU need to do more to improve your own driving. Do better. Keep your neighbors alive.

When I was elected to City Council, I thought I would be filling potholes, not fighting back tyranny. But I'm ready to do both.

Honored to still be in the fight against cancer. Go get screened!
Today, @portland-gov.bsky.social observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month by bringing together leaders, professionals, nonprofit partners, and youth advocates to emphasize the importance of early detection, equitable access to care, and community support for everyone facing #BreastCancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I was honored to bring a recognition to council this morning.

Breast cancer isn't the death sentence it was decades ago, but if folks can't access screening, prevention, or treatment, it doesn't matter how much the science has advanced.

Go get screened!

Thanks to @mayorkwilson.bsky.social for being responsive to Council about extending parking hours to 7-10 PM. This negatively affects our economy (example: @councilordunphy.bsky.social noted its impact on musicians).

Other than event districts, starting 10/15 we're going back to 7 PM free parking.

When you're asked by your grandchildren what you did when tyranny came to Portland, you need to be proud of the answer. Show up, stay peaceful, stay safe, and stand up for Portland.

Portland has spent billions on housing, with very little to show for it. Let's stop reinventing the wheel and instead learn from the successes and failures of other cities around the world to create something that actually works for Portland.

As a reminder, our Portland (Oregon) City Council approved a budget note I proposed, exploring vacancy fees for both commercial and vacant properties. We will be hearing a report back from the administration after their deadline (at the end of February).

Lately I've been asking Portland City Councilors what their "walkout song" would be that played when they enter council chambers (hard-hitting journalism!).

We have a video of their responses going up soon, but before it's spoiled: Tell me which song goes to which councilor (playlist in link).

City Council is on recess this week, and many councilors are on vacation, but I had to drop into City Hall for a moment. It's amazing to watch how productive and happy all the city hall staff are without pesky elected officials making everything more complicated and letting them do their jobs hahaha
